"American Idol" results: the final 10.

And so Stephanie is out. One thing that surprises me is that after all the talk about the "girls" being better than the "boys," the final 10 is evenly split, male and female. And interestingly enough, there are 4 white males. One of them is my favorite -- Blake -- though he's far from the best singer, and the other three are not too good really. The other male -- Sanjaya -- is also not a very good singer. Of the females, I'm really glad the rocker chick Gina survived. It's funny that Hayley is still there. And then the top three best singers seem to be Jordin, Melinda, and LaKisha -- the three black singers left in the competition, all female. Let me just try to pick the order that they will leave (and we can look back and see how wrong I was): Chris R., Gina, Hayley, Phil, Chris Sligh, Sanjaya, LaKisha, Blake, Melinda, Jordin. So: Jordin to win.

I just don't understand how Sanjaya is still around. Those 12 year old girls should have their cell phones taken away from them! The kid is worse than most high school talent show kids...

James, Sanjaya is getting lots of atention from Howard Stern/VoteForThe Worst.com trying to keep him around.

Common demographic problem does explain some of it, but she was clearly not as good as Melinda, Lakisha and Jordin.

Melinda and Lakisha and Blake will be the final 3 left standing. Melinda will be the winner. She just has the most flowing voice and superb range.
Blake and Lakisha will have record deals. Jordin will come in 4th and the rest are just fair singers.
Stephanie had a great voice but the last song she sang needed some pzazz.
Sanjaya should be have been gone long before that beautiuful girl got booted in the first 12.

Jordin should not be categorized as "black". Her mother appears to be "white" and her father "black" and I'm not sure why the one drop rule continues to dominate our society.

She is. (period)

And she is talented.

Day 7 of Absolutely Not a Single Solitary Word on the Corruption Scandal Engulfing the Department of Justice from the Blithering Misogynist "Law Professor."

Plenty on "American Idol," though.

The University of Bumfuck must be so proud.

Sanjaya? God, he not only can't sing but every time I look at him I think he's making himself a girl suit out of real girls - and he's started with Jaclyn Smith's scalp.

Oh, and am I the only person who thinks there are way too many people this cycle with decent enough voices but really let themselves down with poor song choices and/or arrangements that don't show their vocal chops off to best advantage?

There's a girl on MySpace on a hunger strike until Sanjaya is voted off.

My guess on the order they'll fall: Phil, Hayley, Sanjaya, Gina, Chris R., Chris S., LaKisha, Jordin, Melinda. Winner: Blake.

I'm not suprised Stephanie is gone, even though she's clearly not the worst singer. Lots of singers in her genre have left relatively early like LaToya, Tamyra Gray, Christina Christian, Trenyce, etc... There are a trillion hip hoppy light R&B singers out there - Beyonce, Beyonce's sister, Mya, Ciara, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, Christina Milian, Amerie, blabbity blabbity blah... The contestants in that genre just seem very dime a dozen.

Blake won't win. If he gets too far, the AI machine will turn it on full force and start smacking him down. He's got too many ideas! They want a malleable pretty face - like Jordin or Chris R - that they can do whatever they want with. Look how much trouble they've had with Bo Bice and Taylor Hicks.

My predictions... Phil, Haley, Chris Sligh, Lakisha, Sanjaya, Gina, Chris R., Melinda, Jordin to win.

Stephanie was great the first time we saw her- girls night of the top 24, which I recall as the night that all the black chicks rocked and all the white girls sucked. But it's been downhill for her ever since- and I think a lot of that was song choice. This week she really lost it, so I'm not surprised she's gone.

I was a bit surprised that Chris R. was next to last. I thought he'd have more fans, but they may be going to Blake.

LaKisha continues to surprise with her range- it seemed she was a mere belter at first, but she can be more subtle too.

Melinda was disappointing this week. She was technically flawless, but geez, two boring showtunes in a row?

Jordin was fantastic. That was one of the best performances so far this year.

Day 3650 of Dave coming off as a stupid idiot and still no comments to demonstrate any independent thought and a sense of humor.

Meanwhile the rest of us are enjoying life.

I think either Phil or Chris S gets the ax next week - if I had to bet without seeing the performances I'd bet on Phil. His performances have been consistantly weak for a few weeks now.

Final four LaKisha, Blake, Melinda, Jordin. I'd bet Blake makes it to the top 2, he's more talented than last year's winner IMO.

I despise Blake, like I did Ace last season. I have a gut reaction to everything he does. I have to suppress the urge to throw things at the TV everytime I see his cute hairdo or see him wiggle his butt or do that crap he does.

I think it's interesting that when talking about black singers we talk about demographics and that they are competing for the same votes! To put it more clearly, black singers are "supposedly" competing for the black votes, and as there are four (Jordin is mixed but she still leans towards the R&B factor), there aren't that many votes to go around. Listen, I'm not interested in making this a black or white voting issue, though I do find it annoying to hear that this season, that boasts the largest amount of R&B style singers, is considered the most boring season, I must say that Stephanie's departure does not surprise me. I absolutely think she is one of the more talented singers, and that she should have been top five along with Lakisha, Melinda, Jordin & Chris R., but as anyone with a sibbling or some sort of familiar rivalry can attest, you are always compared to that person who is as good or slightly better than you. people forget about the fact that you are good in your own right, and then the mediocre, or marginal does something that surpases expectations and somehow they get the praise you should have. I don't think it's about any real big social issue I just think that singers like Sanjaya, Haley and Phil, surprised people this last week and got the votes that perhaps Stephanie deserved. I think Stephanie will do well. Record executives aren't stupid, someone out there is waiting their turn and will come calling, and her being voted off so early only means that she can sign a deal right away and doesn't have to wait a year. I think the successes of fellow finalists like Jennifer Hudson and that rocker from last year who is outselling the American idol winner, will go a long way towards helping early ousted talents like Stephanie.

I'm missing the country demographic. I miss Kellie Pickler and Bucky Covington. The consolation is that they're on the radio every day now.
