"Goat stuck on ledge on Llandudno's Great Orme."

Just the latest random story that has come up as a Google Alert on the name "John Roberts."

"I reported my concerns to the park wardens who already knew about it. They said they could not do anything to help because if they tried, it would cause the animal distress."

Whereas being left alone up there with no water, no food, and no way down's totally kosher to the animal...

Isn't this natural selection? If we help the goat down, he'll only breed descendants who'll get stuck on ledges and distress the human beings who witness it.

Rescue however affirms your own humanity, which would be the reason for it, if it were feasible to do. The trick is thinking up a plan.

The let-them-die wing tends to favor expert opinion that removes the population from direct contact with nature.

I'd suggest a ladder and a goat-whisperer.

But is it natural selection when you do it in front of potential rescuers?

Ever see a cat skeleton in a tree?

Speaking of random animal stories from the UK, I present to you Atlas as Squirrel . . .

(been a while since we've had a good squirrel story here, and been nary a peep about 'squism', lately)

Nope and I have never seen a luggage rack on a hearse either.

Having been the the Great Orme I can attest that the goat in question was flumoxed by having to pronounce Llandudno. (It isn't close to how it appears to be pronounced)

Conversation between me and an American friend (a Rhodes Scholar from New Jersey):

"Do you know that I've watched Sky News for 3 hours and they kept repeating the same 3 stories every 30 minutes?".

"Aha?".

"One of them was about an overturned lorry with sheep on the M-1. EVERY THIRTY MINUTES THE SAME DAMN SHEEP."

"Dan, we're a small island. Sheep are big here."

Cheers,
Victoria

This is natural selection.

The goat has suddenly lost confidence in its goat abilities. They possess specialized textured hoof pads with suction cup action. Saw this on Animal Planet so it must be 100% of scientific fact. They take a special joy in uncertain footing, leaving behind all kind of predators.

My dog was afraid of facing the basement stairs. From the top it looked a perilous way down. Tired of coaxing, I put on the lead and dragged her down. She hated me at first but mastered it half way down. After that, there was no stopping her. Up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down, that herding dog had the energy. She thought it was the best thing ever.

Therefore, I recommend dropping firecrackers from above, to get the thing moving. If it falters, falls, and perishes, well, then I'll stop making animal-related recommendations for one year and give up the Animal Planet.

the video at jdeeripper's link above has been pulled by YouTube, but LiveLeak still has it up (I'm assuming it's the same video).
