I'll be on 2 radio shows this morning.

At 8 Central Time, I'll do the "Week In Review" show with Joy Cardin on Wisconsin Public Radio. That's the call-in show where they have a liberal and me as the conservative bantering about the news of the week. You can listen stream on line live or, later, listen from the archive. [Stream the "Ideas Network" (not classical music) here.]

At 11 Central Time, I'll be on Gary Eichten's "Midday" show on Minnesota Public Radio talking about the Supreme Court, previewing the new term (which begins on Monday). You'll be able to stream that show live too.

You as the conservative Ann? I do not want to get too hung up on lables, but this has to be relative to the other person who is being invited. You did vote for Obama, are pro choice, and on a host of issues you could lean left on some and right on others. Shouldn't it be you as the moderate?

It's relative within the context of public radio in Madison, Wisconsin.

LOL! Isn't that the truth!

Dave said...

Is the audience aware of that fact? Is it announced that you are actually a moderate? Or do you play devil's advocate on some issues and argue them from the conservative side?

Dave said...

Well I said "argue" but if it's just banter then I suppose that's different. witty banter

One of callers thinks Obama pushing the Olympics for Chicago "smacks of a payback".

Ann Althouse said...

I hope you're listening!

Jason (the commenter) said...

The "liberal" calls Afghanistan a "boondoggle" but blames the international community.

I bet they're who he is going to blame if Chicago doesn't get the Olympics.

Althouse: Apology madness!

Althouse: "It worked for Barak Obama!"

Althouse is not Obama Obama ;)

They're doing a news quiz during the show, how NPR!

How easy is it to find someone as thoroughly clueless and naive as Tony Palmeri in Wisconsin?

Ann Althouse said...

Heh heh. That was fun. I conserv'd it up more than usual.

I don't think he was either. His responses were maybe a little safe, but he was acting as an apologist most of the time.

Who do i have to have sex with to listen to the show ;)

(my employer blocks most intertubes streams)

ha.. that was a David Lettermen reference (in case you've just joined us)

For a moment there I thought perhaps Althouse was going to say the f-word on the radio.

Anne, I think you misrepresented Obama's "blue pill" comment on Week in Review. You described it as advocating palliative care over long term therapy. Here's a full quote from what Obama said:

" If there's a blue pill and a red pill and the blue pill is half the price of the red pill and works just as well, why not pay half price for the thing that's going to make you well? "

He was talking about being able to bargain with drug makers (the same way the VA does) for lower prices on drugs. There's nothing in there about hospice or palliative care. Indeed, palliative care really isn't therapy -- it doesn't "make you well" -- so it seems like quite a stretch to say that's what he was talking about.

I like the sound of that. its like an oxymoron.

I take it listening to Rush Limbaugh's show voluntarily every now and again (and without restraints or smashing the radio) counts as being conservative in Madison.

Lem the artificially intelligent said...

In Madison NOT watching Ken Burns counts as a conservative.

wv - rexpedic - a mattress commercial.

I'm going to start thinking of our hostess as "Ann 'I'm not a conservative but I play one on public radio' Althouse."

I'm sorry I missed it. Those of us on the Left Coast are behind the times. Literally.

The guy on the second radio show needs to watch his S's.

Jason (the commenter) said...

The interviewer is trying to push how interesting the Supreme Court will be and Althouse is trying to say how uninteresting she expects it to be!

Jason (the commenter) said...

"Don't you have friends with completely opposite political opinions from, who you can still have civil conversations with?"

I think many Liberals would answer "no" to that.

Jason (the commenter) said...

The interviewer keeps calling her a University Professor, but isn't mentioning her blogging credentials. They don't have it listed on their web-page either!

The other show mentioned it.

Meade said...

@Jason (the commenter): Right here, under "resources."

Jason (the commenter) said...

I didn't even notice! The other program put the info right in the description.

Be nice if they didnt have them in that crap Realplayer format.

Brazen careerist, Ann Althouse.

Belmont Club says the left is substituting economic and bureaucratic power for their old persuasion, since the old persuasion no longer works outside the university.

Which is the trouble Palmeri is having.

I like the real player format. The file sizes are smaller than mp3's, if you're storing them away or streaming them at low bandwidth.

You do have to attack your real player and get all the options firmly turned off or it will be forever informing you of things and updating itself.
