Cool.

The weather as well as the fish eyed cemetary.

Enjoying yourselves?

Do we get to see food later?

Thar's gold, silver and lead in them thar hills. Thousands of Georgia gold rush miners left for Sacramento in 1849, and then ended up in Colorado mountains after the gold was gone. No wonder the southern accent is all over the Central Valley and the Colorado mining areas too.

Please, please, Ann. I have been looking at flat, snow covered land for going on 4 months. There you are on a mountain top, taking pictures that squish the mountains. Give a hill-deprived girl a break and put away the fish eye!

The child's grave stone reminds me of my mother's two brothers who died as babies. Something that used to be so common, but now we are shocked to hear of. If you ever take a walk around an older cemetery, it is sad to look at all the graves of children and young adults who died in the flu epidemic of 1918. My uncle nearly died in that one.

I hope you get a chance to visit the Central City Opera House. Our family saw a charming production of The Merry Widow there in the summer of 1967.

Puts me in mind of a visit I made with my sister and her family to Fairfield, Utah, the last stop on the eastern leg of the Pony Express before Salt Lake. Same wrought iron gateway to the cemetery. That was in summer, though. Her little boy of three that day turns 21 tomorrow.

All the best, Doug.

Can't Althouse put down her wineglass long enough to take a few pictures on a mountain top? Ridiculous! And don't tell me that's a fisheye lense.

Good news! RNC Chair Michael Steele promises a penetrating no-holds barred investigation into use of RNC donor funds at a bondage-themed strip club!

Daily Caller has the blow-by-blow.

AlphaLiberal said...

This whole Bondage club story is going to just whip the Republican Party.

Calypso Facto said...

Glad to see Alpha supporting the Tea Party's ascendancy!

I should have known you would, since you're always such a good sport! No myopic, fish-eye, image distorting view for you.

Revenant said...

The truly shocking news here is that Alpha is physically capable of linking to a right-of-center website.

Political sex scandals? Well, we've seen plenty of those and (if we're lucky) we'll see plenty more. But AL linking to a site from outside the progressive echo chamber? That's something new and unexpected. :)

AlphaLiberal said...

Oh, you think the Tea Party can break the Republican Party of their bondage to corporate interests?

Or just tie them more in knots?

AlphaLiberal said...

Rev, I keep a wide open mind but I'm not so much into the "wide stance".

AlphaLiberal said...

This whole RNC lesbian bondage story should stimulate the economy -- for comedians. Comedy gold!

Word is that the donors were just trying to tie down the RNC on some slippery positions.

Calypso Facto said...

Alpha: I think the Tea Party will break neither the Republican NOR the Democratic bondage to corporate interests. I just hope that they get people within both of those long-corrupt organizations to start acting with a little fiscal responsibility...

wv: wistsker. A whisker hopeful of becoming part of a beard.

Now off to help my 17 year-old son fill out his first tax return. Hopefully he learns to love paying taxes, since he's gonna have a big hole to dig us out of during his lifetime.

Rialby said...

The question I have is - does AL have both hands on the keyboard as he furtively turns out these posts?

AlphaLiberal said...

Hey, I'm sorry to have fun at the Republicans' "expense." You must find this bondage story humiliating.

"This whole Bondage club story is going to just whip the Republican Party."

The story this year is how we escape the bondage of the Democrats.

That's something that actually affects the people of this country, not your "liberal" keyhole gazing.

TMink said...

Alpha, those are the funniest and most enjoyable posts I have read from you in over a year.

Well done.

Carry on.

Trey

Penny said...

Actually, it's fun, AL!

And "stories" are hardly ever humiliating.

bagoh20 said...

I never quite developed an appreciation for the fish-eye lens, nor bondage for that matter. An obsession with either can affect your perception,... Alpha.

Penny said...

Hey, Trey, long time no see!

Come on over here. There's an empty seat. This could get "interesting".

AlphaLiberal said...

Stole this one:
"The republicans have a small tent...but it has a brass pole."

Man this is stimulating funny bones everywhere.

I'm sure you stole it AL. It's too funny to be your own.

AlphaLiberal said...

The story made Senator "Diaper" Dave Vitter crap his drawers. So he's happy.

(eewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww)

AlphaLiberal said...

Gee, David, you seem awfully uptight. Hard to loosen up?

Irene said...

At least he was doing it with party money rather than

. . .

with a young, subordinate intern in his office.

Penny said...

Verdigris is lovely. Brass is a bit harsh though. Especially when polished.

Not that anyone here would polish their brass pole for a small tent.

AlphaLiberal said...

Yeah, Irene. that's a whole different Republican.

And when Jon Ensign paid off his cuckolded staffer after screwing the guy's wife, he used Mumsey and Daddy's money. Much better!

Aw, now you made me get serious...

AlphaLiberal said...

OK, bipartisanship: At least Elliot Spitzer paid for his whores with his own money.

Why he had to resign for that and Ensign is still in office I'll never understand.

Again, serious. I need to go somewhere funny.

Irene said...

Aw, shucks AL. You were on such an amusing roll!

Touche.

I guess it goes to show that sex in politics is a bipartisan stream.

wv: pubin. *no kidding*

Irene said...

FWIW, "amusing roll" is not a typo.

"taking pictures that squish the mountains."

No, the fisheye adds curve. We are on top of a mountain, and it is flat up there. The mountains at the perimeter looked low because we were high.

Penny said...

Hell no! We are FAR more discrete.

Calypso Facto said...

Ahh. Took too long to post and see the tide has turned back away from feigned seriousness. Good!

Meade said...

"The mountains at the perimeter looked low because we were high."

On life. We were high on life!

Penny said...

We are, in fact, SO discrete that we don't run for office, lest our sex scandals be exposed.

If this is what it takes to get rid of Steele and his buds from the RNC, fine with me!

Hate to spoil your day.

Stole this one:

At least we have them. The Demos are such a pack of limp wieners.

David said...

Perhaps we are too hard on Mr. Steele and (again) not skeptical enough of the media. The RNC says: "We are investigating the expenditure in question. The story willfully and erroneously suggests that the expenditure in question was one belonging to the chairman. This was a reimbursement made to a non-committee staffer. The chairman was never at the location in question, he had no knowledge of the expenditure, nor does he find the use of committee funds at such a location at all acceptable. Good reporting would make that distinction crystal clear. The committee has requested that the monies be returned to the committee and that the story be corrected so that it is accurate."

We'll see.

Calypso Facto said...

As for female sex scandals...how about Catherine the Great? It's a long ways back, but it's the stuff of legend!

Alright...enough for tonight.

Ann and Meade, enjoy the "High Life"!

Althouse & Meade, the Central City graveyard is one of my favorite places on earth. You should see it when the leaves are changing. If you're in the mood for fine Italian food, I recommend Mangia in Idaho Springs, just over the Oh My God Road.

Wouldn't we have to actually like or respect the RNC leadership to find this story humiliating?

Poor Alpha. Nobody's going ballistic the way he hoped. There's no real freude without conservative schaude, is there?

Irene said...

Catherine the Great.

Do you mean the horse (which I thought had been disproved), or just that she was a fun date?

AlphaLiberal said...

When cuddling is scandalous, female pol sex scandals will be widespread.

"Steele blows RNC funds on private jets and lesbian-bondage .."

Penny said...

"Wouldn't we have to actually like or respect the RNC leadership to find this story humiliating?"

Apparently not. You have left better Republicans behind, when it's convenient to "the story" or the post du jour.

George Bush comes to mind.

Free puns.

1. Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent.

2. A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, "I'll serve you, but don't start anything."

3. Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted.

4. A dyslexic man walks into a bra.

5. A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm, and
says: "A beer please, and one for the road."

Pun intended.

Irene said...

"Fun" date. See also Elizabeth I. Women of those eras could not have ruled the way they did had they had men in their shadows.

Are you kidding? Barack Obama is the best thing that ever happened to Rush Limbaugh. Obama's even further left than Clinton was, without the drawbacks of being competent and popular. All in all, what more could a right-wing talk radio personality want in a President?

Ann,

You can drive north from Central City to Nederland, CO (See Frozen Dead Guys Days). North of Nederland is what used to be the town of Caribou (and Cardinal). In the hills above the ghost town is a cemetery - a bit hard to find, but worth the trip. Oh, I forgot it's March and you probably can't get to Caribou this time of year.
