April 4, 2011

The April 4th protest.

There was a Martin Luther King theme...

(Because we remember his death today.)

Jesse Jackson was there:

Waiting in a tent for his turn.

A boy waited in a tree like Zacchaeus:

Enlarge to find the woman with a clown nose.

There was some street theater, with "the Koch brothers" manipulating their puppet, the giant head that is Scott Walker:

There were men, with manly messages:

"I don't have enough middle fingers to deal with this!"

Women with womanly messages:

"Save our State!!! Wisconsin rules!!!!!!!!"

And there was Meade, Flip-camming the Protest Dog of the Day:

That's all.

These people have no concept of what Dr. King was fighting for. Their attempted hijacking of his legacy is laughable!

But, I shouldn't be surprised. I've seen these types in other cities, too, with their puppets and their jesters. They are the same idiots that railed against 'the man', and now they are dependent on 'the man'. Fools, one and all...

I still miss the LIFE magazine of my formative years, and often find your blog and photographs revealing a unique perspective very similar to what I appreciated about that publication, back in the day. Pictures and commentary that made me look and think.

Nothing manly about those messages. Maybe sophomoric. I will do the manly thing and vote tomorrow in conscience.

I'm glad I've never been to Wisconsin.

Since the Reverend Jackson was there, did he bring the bloody shirt?

I thought we remembered it on the third Monday in January.

PS The protesters, what few there were, look mostly good natured. The idiot with the pre-printed sign about middle fingers is obviously a union slug.

Madison must be a very small town!

Jesse Jackson's appearance didn't seem to bring out the crowds.

And, the boy in the tree reminded me that Meade started young, too.

Other than that, the sign that says "I don't have enough middle fingers to deal with this," made me laugh.

And, yes. This is Free Speech. And, a very well behaved group of people (plus one dog, that I could see). And, it is peaceful assembly.

Will it get anywhere?

Don't we have to wait for April 5th to tell the real mood in Wisconsin?

I live near Pasadena. The Offical Rose Parade people HATED the Doo-Dah so much, they made them move the date. And, crowds still show up.

But Pasadena is a large town. The Doo-Dah no longer gets the out-of-towners.

Really disappointed in the lack of monocle displayed by the Koch Brothers.

Aren't you Madisonites (is that the right term) tired of this yet?

I keep forgetting that April 4th is the 2nd Holy Day given to Saint Martin...the Greatest Man ever and don't forget it or you are a racist and we will burn our slums again!
Black Monday in January, and the day of the Saints martyrdom.

The Holy days of Saint JFK and Saint Bobby have faded somewhat. They were still having school days of worship and adoration for the martyred Princes of Camelot on their "special days" back when I was a young kid..and just starting the Cult if Personality about Saint Martin that has reached near North Korean style fever pitch.

Even with grovelling conservatives saying they too believe in Saint Martin...But for them, it is all about one selected line in one selected speech they see as Holy script...and ignore the rest.

Is that Althouse reaching out to shake Jesse's hand?

What I want to know is was she wearing her old Jesse Jackson '88" button?

I bet that's why that kid looks like his eyes are going to pop out of his head.

==========
You know, if Jesse sold that bloody shirt on ebay I think he would get a pretty good price for it. If he kept it and didn't wear it out waving it for 20 years as he started his Chief Negro and Head race-baiter career.

Even dumb conservatives that have no idea about MLK other than his "content of character, not color of skin" tossaway line he plagarized would salivate to have such a holy relic of a Saint as the sacred bloody shirt.

As lang as somebody doesn't do a DNA test on it. Sort if like the Shroud of Turin.

I hate to sound like a broken record (or whatever the digitally appropriate analogy would be), but why isn't Jesse Jackson's face, and the faces of the other clownish luminaries of the left, in a constant video loop on Wisconsin TV in these days before the Supreme Court election?

Who is venerated more?

1. "Dear Leader" on N Koreas national Dear Leader Appreciation Day?
2. Stalin at his peak?
3. Saint Martin Luther King on his Holy Day in public schools?
4. George Clooney in Hollywood

OR

5. Saint Ronny at a Republican gathering of wealthy old men?

I think "Dear Leader" wins. In Democrat schoolteacher run sessions, children in America are now required to give speeches they are graded on extolling how Saint Martin inspired their 11-year old selves to new goodness and redeemed America. But in N Korea EVERYONE stops to talk for a whole day on Kim Il Jongs goodness and how he redeems all of Korea. American students marks rest on how well they praise Saint Martin, but in N Korea, citizen's freedom rests on how well they praise Dear Leader.

There was a little girl and her mother walking through the park one day and they saw two teenagers having sex on a bench.

The little girl says, "Mommy, what are they doing?" The mother hesitates then quickly replies, "Ummm they are making cakes."

The next day they are at a zoo and the little girl sees two monkeys having sex. Again she asks her mother what they are doing and her mother replies with the same response, "Making cakes."

The next day the girl says to her mother, "Mommy, you and Daddy were making cakes in the living room last night, right?" Shocked, the mother asks, "How do you know?"

She says, "Because I licked the icing off the sofa."

Mostly I just ignore the idiocy these days, but a "Recall Walker/Preserve Union Jobs" sticker got my attention the other day in Monona... on the back of a Toyota Tundra. The only non-union-made full-size pickup you can buy, right? (Or maybe there's a Nissan?) So typical. Talk smack, but don't support inferior products at inflated prices when it's your own hard-earned money at stake. Just expect everyone else to.

If I see it again, I'm gonna track down who owns it at the restaurant and thank him for the chuckle.

I can't get my hate on for any of these people. This is just the reverse of the Middle East protests where I can't get my love on for any of the Libyan protestors.....Good teachers are underpaid. Bad teachers are overpaid. A teacher is not any more adept after ten years than he is after five years. The administrative staff that surrounds public education is like a coral reef that has a life of its own and keeps on growing.

Yeah well, they hijacked MLK here in Asheville also. The union dude said we had to fight for the workers because of Wisconsin.

The ignorance is astounding.

(And NC is a right to work state, besides. And the Triangle fire was a loooong time ago.))

Unions did some good years ago, but then their accomplishments were codified in law.

The unions however, would have us pay tribute to them forever.

You truly are an idiot, aren't you? You did know (I bet you didn't) why MLK was in Memphis when he was killed? He was there to support a strike by city sanitation workers--a major demand included the right to unionize.

Now how is using the anniversary of his death to protest the gutting of collective bargaining rights "hijacking his legacy"

Freder Frederson said...

Yeah right, there is no place for unions any more. After all, Transocean had the “best year in safety performance" ever (ignore that oil spill and 11 deaths). So good they rewarded their CEO with multi-million dollar bonuses.

Toad Trend said...

@Freder

King did not demonstrate /march on behalf of privileged white people. Quite the contrary! King was a promoter of restitution for black slavery...even though he himself acknowledged that it would never settle any score. That he happened to be on the scene in Memphis for black sanitation workers and equal pay compared to whites has ABSOLUTELY ZERO PARALLEL to the situation we see today.

YOU are the idiot.

A house down the street from mine has a sign on the lawn that says "its about freedom". I want to ask them, if thats what you feel, then why the heck dont you want the freedom do decide whether you belong to the union or not? Idiots ....

They want the freedom to demand compliance from nonunion workers and taxpayers. Opposition means you might not get police and fire protection.

It's an offer you can't refuse.

Nice little house you got there.

Anyone see the commercial with the young man who was victimized by a priest, defending David Proesser? His family owns a toy store in Appleton. The union idiots have now called for a boycott of his familys store. Yeah, lets boycott a family business because one of its members asked the union to stop using his story inaccurately and without permission. Jerks, jerks, jerks. Voting is today. The jerks will be out in droves. I am embarrassed to be a Wisconsinite.

"Remind me again why college educated professionals need a union."

In 2015, professors and TAs working in the UW Union South sweatshop were being forced to do piecework scholarship and teaching for very low wages.

On May 25 that year, a pile of student papers caught fire, and flames rushed through the building.

Within minutes, the quiet spring afternoon erupted into madness, a terrifying moment in time, disrupting forever the lives of young workers.

By the time the fire was over, all 500 employees had nearly died. Some made desperate leaps from the first floor windows, spraining their ankles and spilling their lattes.

The Walker administration of 2011 was blamed for the disaster.

Automatic_Wing said...

Piecework scholarship, LOL. The cruel inhumanity of slaving over a desktop computer for $.75 per Gender Studies monograph page.

It's another Drama Queen parade! Where all the participants can bring their own Tiara and gown!

Because not allowing a union to fleece non-union taxpayers is JUST LIKE lynching blacks, spraying them with firehoses, turning dogs loose on them and making them go to the back of the bus.

I think that Dr Martin Luther King might have something to say about the content of their character, concerning their greed.

miller said...

"MLK the ... Evangelical Christian Republican"

Uh, no.

Read his works and sermons. He was a Christian, but no Evangelical.

Evangelicals care only for the next world and getting ready for it.

Dr. King cared about the here-and-now for the oppressed and silenced.

Surprising what you find out if you read the one you claim to be quoting.
