At the Michigan protests: "I was sucker-punched 4 times on camera, without retaliation, choked..."

"... and the AFP tent is torn to the ground with women and children inside of it. Extremely violent footage."

Union thugs... in broad daylight, on camera. Are they stupid... or do they know something about the willingness of the authorities to enforce the law?

Well, they do know that the cops are union also and the President is cheering them on. What do they have to worry about? Approximately half of the country would probably cheer if the right to work folks were exterminated. I am sure the mainstream media will not shun the union thugs for their violence, most likely they will spin the story in their favor and cheer them on. They want blood. They are angry and violent. They will get a free pass to act as violently as they wish. Just another day in the life of America under the class warfare machine.

The right to work rules in Michigan don't prevent people from forming unions. They don't require though that people are forced to pay dues or go through a union to keep or get a job. And this is totally fair.
What's completely immoral are unions preventing people from working if they aren't part of the union. Or having the last person hired be the first person fired and not be able to egotists their position with their employer for their position. Thats complete crap. Newer hires pay union dues to protect the jobs of old timers who have been in the union longer at the expense of their own jobs if negotiations call for job cuts.
Again, that's bullshit.

If you think a judge will ignore an assault from a union guy, you're mistaken.

They received progressive compensation for the consequences of the policies they supported, and left the rest of America to carry the risk.

Reminds me of something Milton Friedman wrote (paraphrasing):

Unions are cartels. That's why they so often resort to violence, because without physical coercion, they fall apart.
-----------------------------

Now, forced unionization by governmental fiat saved many a union's face back in the day, because the normal kick-them-in-the-head-and-rape-their-wives tactics weren't necessary if Big Daddy Government could force a business not to hire you without a union card. It's why it was enacted---unions used political power to grant them full cartel power without the need for open warfare on non-members.

But here, with the union power lost/on the verge of losing, true unionism comes out. And, unlike in the previous centuries, the unions can't uniformly force the news to cover their violence.

Still, it doesn't matter. Fascism has won in our country. This is is like a pistol shot at a tank.

Governors Blanchard, Engler, and Granholm used Michiganian, and it's the form used by the Detroit News and the Michigan Historical Society. Its supporters point out "Michigander" was coined as an insult.

On the other hand, Governor Snyder says Michigander, as does the Detroit Free Press. A 2011 poll of residents of Michigan said 58% prefer Michigander, 12% preferred Michiganian, 12% had no opinion, and 17% didn't like either. Supporters often claim insisting on "Michiganian" is pompus.

At the Capitol: Ex state senator, Dave Zien of Eau Claire, with Tea Party crew, yelling and screaming "Walker for president", draping their snake flags over singers at the Solidarity Singalong in the Rotunda. One protester was punched in the face chipping his tooth. Disorderly and battery charges.

What you see in the video is exactly why the unions want "card check" so badly. Take away the secret ballot, and 99% of people will yield to the union's positions, rather than risk being on the receiving end of a serious beating, a vandalized car/home, or constant harassment of one's self or family members.

(I grew up in a non-"Right-to-Work" state, and I had to join a supermarket worker's union as a part-time worker when I was a kid. Let's just say that, somehow, the shop steward was never a pint-sized woman from the deli, but always a big fellow who never smiled, barely did any real work, and looked like he just walked off the set of "The Sopranos." Most workers just kept their heads down and tried to avoid doing anything that would get "attention" from the union because, hey, accidents happen. A supermarket union - not even a "tough" union, like the Teamsters or the Ironworkers!)

The trough is shrinking.

If they were a government, they'd just print money and write a few more laws every year to make sure they got their cut.

Unions, on the other hand, were originally valuable for their votes.

When their numbers (public sector, at any rate) began to decline the State didn't worry because they were so useful for laundering money.

Now that the unions have killed their industries, they can provide neither votes in great numbers nor money - which is siphoned off in ever greater amounts by the union "leaders" - because for the State to pay a Union, it has to at least pretend to make something.

The trough is getting smaller. And there will be blood. They got that right.

For Inga, whose faith in unions is touchingly naive, here are the title, subtitle, and first paragraph of the story garage mahal claims never to have heard of, which I linked in my previous post (the whole thing is here):

New Law Frees Home Health Care Providers From Stealth Unionization, Dues Skim

Illegal arrangement that netted SEIU $29.4 million from the developmentally disabled comes to an end

MIDLAND — Michigan’s 60,000 home health care aides will no longer be deemed government employees — meaning they cannot be forced into a government employee union and have dues withheld — as a result of legislation signed today by Gov. Rick Snyder. The next step is for the Michigan Department of Community Health to immediately stop the collection of dues from subsidy payments intended to assist developmentally disabled adults and the diversion of those funds to the Service Employees International Union, said Patrick J. Wright, director of the Mackinac Center Legal Foundation.

- - - - - - - - - - - -

Yes, Inga, some Michigan unions are utterly vile extortionist thugs.

And I'm deeply disappointed that the governor or the courts did not find some way to make them pay back, with interest, every penny they extorted from the caretakers.

It's easy enough to imagine. If you care for your own child at home and get state funds, if state "medicaid" funds require home health care providers to belong to the union and union membership for home health care providers is mandatory (not "right to work") then parents would have to be classified as home health care providers under the law (to get the medicaid) and why *wouldn't* they be subject to mandatory union membership?

That's how mandatory union membership works, right?

I'm not actually anti-union. I can think of any number of important, useful, things that unions could provide for workers.

But how would there be a "war" if workers were free to either join a union or join whatever they felt served them best? If you wanted the benefits the SEIU offered, go with that. If you liked the Nice Nurses Union better, go with them.

If you don't think that you need the services of any available union... the legal advice hot line is a dud and the suplementary insurance is a scam... then don't belong to any.

Inga what is your point about unions? If they work so well for relatives, great. Then it's worth it for them to pay the dues. They wouldn't need compulsory membership and dues. People would freely join and pay for it. Nothing about a right to work act prevents that and unions aren't required to bargain for non-members. So what's the problem with right to work? If unions were worth it for most people, they would join. What is it with liberals always trying to compel people to whatever they want ?

Eric said...

Well of course not. It's not usually the union members who have the complaints. It's the people who depend on whatever service they're supposed to provide.

Still, if someone doesn't want to join the union, why should he be forced to? Particularly since part of his paycheck may be going to support political causes he disagrees with.

The California Nurse Association broke with the American Nurse Associations version of a nurses union years ago. The CNA promptly went to war with the SEIU, going after workers who were already organized by SEIU because nurses should be represented by a nursing union was the thinking. The two butted heads for years with ugliness on both sides. The ANA union was nea useless but the CNA was and still is, vvery radical and leftist. About three years ago several state union organizations left the ANA and joined with the CNA and created the National Nurses Union. They are quite radical and use the threat of striking as a foremost strategy. I know I am a forced uniin member of the NNU. I am a Michigander and will uncouple from the union as sooon as I am able. Because of its aggressive tactics and my hospitals willingness to take it to the wall when peoplle where fearful of losing their job, we actually lost quite a bit in our last contract. The union came close to a decertification vote because people were disgusted by what was goingg on. That is why the union settled a crappy contract so they wouldn't completely lose their ass. The real issues that need to be dealt with in nursing never, never are. The head of the NNU makes way more than I do as does her husband, who happens to have a job with the union too. A pox on them.

From everything I've seen when unions get involved in demonstrations, strikes, etc. there is almost always anger and violence. I have never seen footage of a demonstration involving unions that didn't at least involve verbal confrontations and there is usually some sort of physical assault. This includes the strike I was forced to be involved in when I lived in Oregon. The situation is an invitation to violence and it easily turns into a mob. It starts with words, but almost never ends there.
It's not surprising, but it's not possible to defend it.
