See yourself as other see you... guys too!

You've seen the oh-so-touching revelation — via Dove — to women of how others really see them. If not, catch up now:

Now, it's time for the men:

The original was always funny, of course.

ADDED: That pair of videos reminded me of the 2011 viral video "Manifesto for Conscious Men":

Which led to this parody:

Again, you didn't really need the parody. The original was already funny, but the parody is very useful if you find it hard to laugh at sensitive people, you beautiful person, you.

Let's all watch Dove's viral video for a few minutes, then go back to giving millions of hits to makeup tutorials for the rest of our lives.

That was hilarious.. now we know why patriarchy has survived and why women are always pissed.

That was funny.

Do you know the lockdown in Boston was referred to "shelter in place"? That term meant stay indoors.

tits.

Finally, a video that really helps show what body dysmorphia is like. Except, of course, multiply it by, say, 100. Been there, done that, got cured. It's like going from an old B&W tube TV to HDTV. Whoa.

You didn't need the parody because you already anticipated the joke....but it was pretty well executed. The lawn gnome comment made me laugh.

"I would say the older I've gotten the more stunning I've gotten."

Twenty or thirty years ago the culture taught men, even if they were this conceited, to keep their mouths shut.

Dove Real Beauty? Axe. Rye Clifton posted a clever mashup years ago that I can't find now, but I found a similar one here.

So, women view each other as more beautiful than they think they are themselves, and men more rapey and ugly and frightening and stinky than the men think they are themselves.

So, why aren't all women lesbians?

Isn't that the only rational solution?

I'd be interested in seeing how the men saw and described the women.

Maybe they tried, and it didn't go anywhere, because they got really good descriptions of breasts but they couldn't remember the faces very clearly. LOL

It's a toss-up between not enough U-Hauls for rent and the fact that U-Hauls don't load themselves.

But Rizzoli and Isles still could have found "the little man in the boat" in seconds yesterday. I blame the patriarchy.

Worshiping the Feminine energy is not really new. Eunuchs of many religious cults have always done it for a living. It's called Goddess Religions. The UN has one up and going to get rid of the religions started by Abraham.

To my eye, generally the women in the first video were somewhat above average. I'm not a good judge of mens' beauty but I thought the men looked OK.

I was totally disgusted by the nasty comments by the women who seemed to depersonalize the men. In other words the women acted exactly the way they accuse men of acting, treating them as sex objects not as human beings with feelings.

The men were much more generous about the women. I can't imagine a decent man talking about a woman in the terms the women were using against the men.

They've created their "own" "solution" by being attracted to an "ugly" deviousness in men and by being hatefully jealous of good-looking women.

I'm not really sure I believe the video about the men. If it is true, it's disturbing. The disturbing part isn't that the men saw themselves as being more handsome than they really were. The disturbing part was the ugliness that the women attributed to the men.

I hope this is a false account, a joke in somewhat bad taste.

This effort by Dove to raise women’s self-esteem may be well-executed, but that shouldn’t obscure the fact that it’s boooooogus. The sketch artist knew when he was drawing from women’s self-descriptions and when he was drawing from others’ descriptions. He could easily skew his drawings so that those from the self-descriptions were unflattering and those from others’ descriptions flattering. My cynical suspicion is that those were precisely his instructions. All the exercise proves is how eager a seller of soap is to convince women they’re more beautiful than they think and to have them associate its product with feelings of warmth and self-affirmation.

A woman didn't come home one night. The next day she told her husband that she had slept over at a friend's house. The husband called his wife's ten best friends. None of them had seen her or knew what he was talking about.

A man didn't come home one night. The next day he told his wife that he had slept over at a friend's house. The wife called her husband's 10 best friends. Eight of them confirmed that he had slept over, and two claimed that he was still there.

It's not a double-blind experiment, is it? Until both the artist is blind and the subject is blind, I'm not buying it.

(Technically the artist doesn't know his subject, but the subject knows. And I bet the artist intuits in about 1 minute if the subject is or isn't the actual person.)

They're from Boston, you know, Gahrie. . .so it's funny because it's true! But thanks for noticing anyway. You're the only one that put that to type, even if you're not the only one that got it.

Did people really not get the second police sketch video or are such comments additional satire?

I think some people definitely missed the satirical nature of the second Dove video, Freeman.

Dear Women, we've left our balls behind somewhere at a bra burning ceremony and we can't find them anymore. Now that we've been relegated to Gamma Male status, we've made this video so that you won't completely ignore us as complete and total balless tools who don't have an iota of testosterone left anywhere in our bodies. Thank you.

PS, can you throw us a bone and just look in our direction so you can validate whatever masculinity you perceive that we might have left?

I have always perceived a woman to be a male peacock, who fans her glorious plumage to attract a perspective mate. Now, I understand that a woman is actually a female black widow, who exploits and consumes her ugly mate. I apologize for elevating a woman's dignity to an undeserved pedestal.

I wonder why Dove didn't pick women who were actually unattractive for their ad.
