Did they have to jump out of their car to see the street sign?

Saw the bit on "Althouse St." and have a question. How does Ann pronounce her last name, with a hard T or a soft TH (assuming the OUSE part rhymes with mouse)?

PS - I really enjoy most of the comments but the flame wars between Inga and Shouting Thomas or Inga and Edutcher or Garage and everyone else do grow tedious. I've wanted to ask this question (above) for some time, but never put it in a direct comment until now.

Serendipity...just yesterday, while doing genealogy research, I was checking out Google Maps to look at the house in which my grandfather was born. It's in East Rockaway, NY, on Waldo Avenue, just a couple of blocks away from that village's Althouse Avenue (which I immediately spotted on the map and thought of you/the blog). East Rockaway is one village away from Woodmere. All are part of old Hempstead.

Looks like it deserves the caption/song title: 'Don''t Fence Me In'.
