"My truth is that I want you to win, I really do."

Says Oprah Winfrey — deploying New-Age "my truth" talk, as she tells Lindsay Lohan to "cut the bullshit." And it's probably all bullshit, generating material for Lohan's reality show on Oprah's TV network and promoting the show with that teaser (at the link).

Reading between the lines, I think they didn't get enough interesting footage of Lohan, for whatever reason, so they tried to edit a story line together about not being able to get the footage. That's the old "Roger and Me" trick, beloved of on-the-cheap documentarians. You can't get footage of your subject, so you use the footage of you trying to get the footage.

I used that technique editing Meade's footage from the Wisconsin protests, as he tried to get our assemblyman, Brett Hulsey, to talk to him. Here, on March 22, 2011:

More here. And here, on March 25, 2011:

It's actually pretty funny when someone is evading you, at least if you feel ethically entitled to use the footage you do get, and we definitely did.

What kind of person wears a windbreaker with his name embroidered on the front?

This moron has hopes for higher office? What a tool.

It did not take long for Brett Hulsey's pathologies to be notice by people of all parties.

Like Bill Kramer, it is shameful that people willingly looked past that to endorse and vote for someone whose issues were so apparent.

Of course, there real problem with Roger and Me was not that the footage didn't exist, but that it couldn't be used because it showed Roger Smith giving multiple interviews to Moore--which did not fit with Moore's story line that Roger wouldn't meet with him.

Michael Moore being Michael Moore, he opted to tell a complete lie rather than an inconvenient truth. An entertaining and powerful movie, sure, but built around a lie.

My truth is that I want to avoid Oprah, I really do.

Why was Hulsey so afraid to talk to Meade?

When he was running for office in our district, he came to our house and intruded on us in our non-political environment to talk politics, and Meade talked to him. (I avoided him, as I avoid all politicians who come to the house.)

He looks so pathetic trying to avoid talking to Meade -- calling Meade "right wing" and acting like my blog is Meade's writing.

At this point I couldn't care less about Oprah's truth. This show smells like exploitation. Lindsay Lohan was a cute child star. I hate to see her degrade herself to this level.

deploying New-Age "my truth" talk

That seems to be what conservatives are engaged in on race. They tell me what they think, what they believe, they bring up Africa - anything but dealing with, and admitting, what levels of depravity American life's really consisted of.

No wonder they're losing - they're delusional,...

Sorry to go off topic, but Crack's post made me think of the following:

I just finished re-reading Loewen's "Sundown Towns," which covered how such existed until the Seventies, with ramifications to continue.

A quick excerpt from a photo caption:

"In 1914, Villa grove, Illinois put up this water tower. Sometime thereafter, the town mounted a siren on it that sounded at 6:00 PM to warn African-Americans to get beyond the city limits, until about 1998."

So where am I heading with this?

A few weeks back there was a television special celebrating 50 years of the Beatles, with many reminiscences of that first appearance on Ed Sullivan, current musicians speaking about their legacy and how it still was felt today. Indeed, two Beatles survive, and appear on the show to applause.

In many of the back-and-forths with Crack the idea of how to evaluate the time that has passed since Jim Crow has come into discussion; those Sixties are either so far away or so close, ancient history or current currency, depending on where one stands. Meanwhile, the Beatles of that era are still a touchstone to be constantly returned to, whether through appreciation or nostalgia.

Time is a funny thing: nothing new here. Just a juxtaposition that had come to mind reading many of Crack's posts...

I wonder about the dynamics of Lindsay's addictions. Nowadays she's most famous for being an addict. Recovery will mean the end of fame, and maybe fame is her real addiction.......By ordinary standards she's an attractive woman, but she's lost her fastball and doesn't have sufficient guile to throw a curve. If she gets straight, she could become a character actress in a sitcom ensemble, but her movie star days are gone. For another few years she can be the star of this low budget tragedy she calls her life, but soon the paparazzi will find riper corpses to feed upon and even that fame will be withdrawn.

Crack why don't you like to talk about Africa?

Okay, I'll admit it. My post above was angling for a front page to get today's Crack thread started. Maybe I should have tossed in what Dylan was doing at the time, also. Had a crush on Suze Rotolo when I first saw the album cover a decade later.

Crack likes to cut the shit too, bull or not.

Don't clean it.

Cut it.

Don't remove it.

Cut it.

Spread it around.

My truth is Bill Clinton raped those women.

Well, except that Moore lied about not talking to Roger.

Is this Oprah's attempt to get younger female viewers? Looks like she wants to do it on the cheap with LL.

Why so harsh? Perhaps he has Alzheimer disease.

Why was Hulsey so afraid to talk to Meade?

Obviously Meade is a bad-ass. Looks like he is threatening to strike an Alzheimer victim.

Comedy Stage Open Mic Night Comic says:

So I was in my parents' basement doing some research on the internet -- by 'doing research' I mean I was looking for nude photos of celebrities (laughter), and I realized I can't masturbate to Lindsay Lohan. Not even if I tickle my balls (laughter). Wait, wait, here's the thing. I consider myself a sensitive man: Lindsay is troubled, she has been exploited, she has exploited herself -- a real mess. The bigger problem, though, is that she doesn't have enough good nude photos out there (laughter). Okay, there IS that, but really, she's a troubled thing, someone should buy her a pony, troubled girls like ponies (laughter).

Hollywood is tough on the young, tough on the young: ask Corey Feldman. While he's changing the oil in your car (laughter). To be clear: I don't masturbate to him either, by the way (laughter). Still, it's tough being young in Hollywood: look at Miley Cyrus, I think we can agree that she's a mess -- the difference being that Miley is still bringing in the big bucks, so she's only on the on-deck circle (laughter). My rule of thumb: if they are still making money off their sexuality you don't need to use the 'shame Kleenex'. (laughter) Thank you, you've been very kind...

I am sure that Crack knows about Calvinism--total depravity of all mankind? Surely, he knows that many Americans agree with him about the depravity of Americans, both black and white. We are Presbyterians. We are all depraved. Now, what are we going to do about it?

Of course, it could be preordained.
