"After months of hype, it looks like one of this year’s biggest flops is Addyi, the little pink pill that claims to address lack of sexual desire in women."

"The libido drug — which must be taken daily and has such severe potential side effects that women are told not to drink while on it — has been prescribed just a few hundred times since it hit the market in October. Even in trials, Addyi helped such a small percentage of women that many wondered how it gained FDA approval at all."

Ha! It gained FDA approval by putting on a huge PR campaign implying being and-Addyi was anti-woman.

Testosterone injections would likely work.

Or we could accept ourselves the way we are. That might work also.

Did any clinical trial compare it TO alcohol?

It affects only the libido minora.

This is why God made liquor.

Why? Because equality! And fairness!

It's the mens' fault.

In this case the placebo doesn't work.
Pity.

The side effects are garbage. The FDA is so risk-averse that if you fart twice while taking something, manufacturers are required to list it as a potential side effect.

If Viagra were introduced today it would have a similar set of warnings and cautions. If aspirin were introduced it wouldn't be approved...

Nothing works as well as MDMA. Its efficacy spans the genders, but for men it's more of an enhancement than an energizer.

Ethanol has been know to work perfectly well for millennia.

I foresee "I never would have had sex with him if I hadn't taken Addyi, so he raped me." coming along.

The problem is that too many women "couple" with the too many men who know not how to "warm up" a woman. They deserve what they get.

Yeah. There's nothing to "wonder" about here.

"'But the actual specifics of what women enjoy and what they need to feel pleasure had never been researched before.' . . . Conceptually, [the promoted website] is not a huge departure from the work of pioneering feminist sexologists like Betty Dodson, who’s been helping women find their pleasure and articulate their desires for decades. But the interface is more modern, the packaging more slick."

Because if the research wasn't done by a feminist or a lesbian it doesn't count. And modern interfaces and slick packaging ladies!!

The prescription data is simply a result of doctors not buying into it and women being afraid to ask for it - and being told they don't have an issue. Even drugs that ultimately aren't any good get prescribed a lot before their usage dwindles.

The idea addyi is useless came from some sectors not understanding the data or how placebo works. It does have some impact on some portion of women beyond placebo and would ALSO I still positive placebo effects on a good number of women.

If it doesn't help a lot of women, fine, it'll fail on its own. But rejecting a drug where there is an identified ailment and no other option because you wish there was something better was always a stupid approach by the fda.

An expensive dinner and nightcap have always worked for me. In a pinch a man should lie about how much money he makes. Expensive cars, homes or jewelry have been known to work, I know of a supplier of fake Lady Rolexes. Great thing about the these watches is that by the time wear and tear reveals- them to be fake you're probably bored with her. Time to move on.

When will these be as popular as pacemakers? Perhaps even prescribed by psychiatrists to keep a family together when we find pajama boys are all that’s left and the left is all that remains.

Those with a full chromosome set deserve better and this will meet and exceed the need. It's in our nature to project our weaknesses on others. A pity that nitrous oxide fell out of favor. A laughing gas party was more the peacocks strutting their stuff with the hens amused at the show and making their own choices, as they always do. As soon as satisfaction is as easy as a push button, we'll be able to sort a couple's relationship and emotional health by who has and shares access to the button.

No reason to mess your body up with drugs. Shades of JFK. Or tolerate government dicta related to what's good or bad for you, food included. Who died and left them god? Time for pharma to get (even) more competition from the device makers. It's science! And for the Children! Let's have more soon, someone needs to fund the checks we've been writing for them.

Oh my.

So your contention is the FDA, which originally rejected the drug before caving under political pressure, doesn't understand how placebos work?

What do women want?

Apparently not bullshit.

Wait. That can't be right.
