"It's a large, hallucinatory square of spectacular gold filigree."

"Adele looks almost as if she has inserted her head into one of those carnival cutouts, her thin face partly cast in shadow, obscured by the glare. Her lips are parted, eyelids heavy, cheeks pink."

The Klimt portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer is now on view at the Neue Galerie.

That description gives me an idea for a new effect that could be added to Apple's Photo Booth, which currently allows you to take a picture of yourself -- as you idle away the minutes in front of your computer -- with an effect like this:

Photo Booth

Nicely done.

I don't know about your software, but PhotoShop allows you to soften the edges of an effect like that so that you fade from original to effect. It's a nice touch if available.

Interesting effect. But it lacks that neurotic twist of the hands that makes Adele unforgettable.

HD: In Photo Booth, you pick an effect and then it takes the picture, so this is the original. It's fun to play with, like goofing around in a Photo Booth.

a woman's powerful hair rays can make Muslim men go insane

wtf? Is that for real? I mean, is that really why muslim women are supposed to wear head scarves??? If so... well, I don't really know what to say except "wtf"...

Hair rays.

I'll give you the moon, Mary.

I'll take it. Then what?

Well, then you can swallow it, and it'll all dissolve, see... and the moonbeams would shoot out of your fingers and your toes and the ends of your hair... am I talking too much?

It's a Wonderful Life! That was one of the sexist (and most subtle) scenes ever, Ann. Thanks!

Sometimes you don't even need Photoshop for life to imitate art:

Daybreak and all that

There once was a woman whose hair rays

some commenter questions did fair raise;

is the pic on this thread (of her photoboothed head),

to seduce all us Tom, Dick, & Harrys?

:)
