Did Apple really check whether women would like the idea of a maxi-pad?

I see that Steve Jobs is demonstrating the new product — the iPad — with a "Star Trek" video...

... indicating the answer is no, they did not put a whole lot of thought into appealing to women. When you make something light, you should think about how important the product will be to women, who are touchy about carrying things. Anyway, for our light days, we have iPhones. For our heavy days, we have the iPad? The iMaxiPad? Come on, guys!

And hey, MadTV warned them:

(Thanks to Meade and Zachary Paul Sire for the female-friendly humor.)

You could write an inspirational new age poem using the names of feminie hygiene products of the 70s.

It can't have gotten harder today.

But, can you swim, play sports, ride your bike...?

The store brand without wings is best for bike helmet pads.

Is it ergonomically friendly? I'd hate to see you get the cramps from using the thing.

I predict the entire thing will end up being... flushable.

And no, I'm not (necessarily) talking about tonight's SOTUA.

Women may be touchy about carrying things but the NY Post tells me that the average weight of the bags women schlep around NY is 7 lbs!

I think iSlate was a better name. They obviously never talked to a single woman about the name.

But at least I don't need a contract w/ ATT to have one.

When I heard Ipad, I asked a woman if they were targeting the female customer. Yes, I got a dirty look.

She liked the name. Ipad ..Ipod get it? is what she asked me.

I told her there are two types of people - those who love Apple brand and those who could not care less.

Will guys be want to be seen standing in line to buy pads?

If this is for book readers, and women like to read lots of books, then someone should get fired for giving it this name.

Are you serious? "Pad" is a common English word with dozens of meanings, just one of which happens to be a feminine hygiene product.

If you're inclined, you can giggle at "rod" and "do" and "jack" and "come" and "finger" while you're at it.

Funny. I'm one of the most feminine women you'll ever meet, but the Star Trek picture is actually what drew me to this post, and earlier I didn't even make the connection between the iPad and feminine hygiene products until my husband mentioned it.

My favorite part of the whole thing is that "iTampon" was a Twitter trending topic pretty much all day. What was wrong with iSlate?

...and by the way ladies...don't underestimate the power of the Apple brand...in 3 months time when you ask for your hygiene product at your favourite store, they will probably reply that they don't sell computers..!
