Getting the ax.

Literally and, then, figuratively.

“I hope the tribunal takes a rational decision on this. He has been punished more than what his mistake merited,” Mr. Baby said.

I'm not sure how you cut off someone's palm, unless the article meant to say the hand was cut off at the palm. In any event, a totally dreadful story.

Mr. Baby.

What, are you making fun of his name? This is a horrible story and you're laughing about a name in it?

Let me tell you I am absolutely shocked, shocked to find out that this involved Muslims.

Lighten up, Jason -- she's just noting it. It's sort of hard not to.

Of more interest: I read both linked stories and couldn't find the offensive question that the lecturer posed, that merited an amputation and a firing. That must have been one offensive question. I'm really sick of this cowardice. We should make every day "Everyone Draw Mohammed Day".

Islam needs to be dragged into modern times in the worst way.

You do realize, don't you, Jason, that your attitude is on a continuum with those who would suppress anything disrespectful toward the Prophet? There's something ultra-serious here, so there can be no laughing. There's irony for you.

This is deadly serious, because it clearly illustrates the folly of PC interaction with religious nuts. You may disagree with others on what they say or believe, but when you make a physical assault, the full weight of the law and condemnation needs to come down on the perpetrators. Trying to be "even handed" by disciplining the victim just sends the message "if you say anything offensive, you had it coming".

This is exactly the message the cartoon jihad in Europe has sent - offend "sensibilities" and you risk your life. So you cow everyone into silence in fear of these morons.

It is going to get worse before someone says "enough" and starts expelling people or throwing them into jail.

And what did the GZM Imam have to say about this attack. Did he remonstrate with his fellow Muslims about their actions? Did he speak out about it?

What is the world coming to when an innocent man cannot even ask a question on a test without fear of losing his hand.

We should all be grateful that the school authorities have their priorities straight. Sacking Mr. Joseph was no doubt necessary to put a lid on the ever-threatening anti-Muslim backlash.

Nothing like the total triumph of the thugs. You can attack and horribly mutilate someone, and still play the victim card in getting him sacked. Sweet.

From Wikipedia:

"In the examination, question 11 asked students to punctuate a dialogue between a character and God. The dialogue was viewed by some as derogatory. The passage was based on a lecture by CPI(M) leader P. T. Kunju Muhammed . . . In the original text, the character talking to God was unnamed; in the examination, Joseph gave the character the name Muhammed, thus making it seem like a dialogue between God and Muhammed."

CPI(M) is the Communist Party of India (Marxist). So it looks like this guy took a Marxist critique of religion/God, named the questioning character after the original author of the critique (a Mr. Muhammed), and radicalls understood it as if he were putting such (blasphemous) words in the mouth of the Prophet Muhammed.

The Ground Zero Iman said we should not judge what we don't understand. We need to show tolerance to the culutural and religious sensibilities of these barbarians.

Cue the excuse makers and appolgists.

"Let's use a slippery slope argument on Jason!"

Yes, I am on a slope, but I'm halfway down it. At the bottom are Islamic extremists killing people for rudeness towards the prophet. At the top are people standing idly by while this is happening. I'm happy where I am.

The irony for me is that Althouse was against Draw Mohammed Day because it might needlessly offend people. And I have to wonder if she "used her judgment" in commenting on this article. I also have to wonder if she was only against Draw Mohammed Day out of fear of a backlash. I guess it's fine to be rude to people as long as they wont fight back.

And then put to death. They would expect to do no less to the rest of us, so in that vein I say, them before us.

Pantheism is safer than these religions founded by a man on his angelic revelations. The followers of the medium are so afraid that any criticism of the man is a blasphemy of a god that not defend himself. Jesus said you could call him names all day long, but just not to say that the Holy Spirit's presence is an evil force if you expect to get any help from the Holy spirit. The darkness and heart of evil contained in Mohammed's revelation is on open display here again. Not that there is any thing wrong with a message of darkness from a heart of evil if its followers are winners using swords to cut off men's lives.

Good grief. Where is the eliminationist rhetoric when you need it?

It would be foolish to put an American spin on Hindu/Muslim conflicts in India. This goes way beyond 9-11 and mosque near ground zero.

Yeah. Merely because of the existence of Islamic extremists in India, and Pakistan, and Thailand, and Malaysia, and the Philippines, and Algeria, and Nigeria, and Somalia, and Kenya, and Morocco, and Spain, and France, and Great Britain, and the Netherlands, ... it would be foolish to try to discern any sort of pattern or causal agent.
