"We would all joke to Joe 'Arnold’s your dad' because he just looks so much like him."

"Joe would just laugh it off. But we never had any idea, we thought it was a funny joke. But it was real. When we said it to Mildred she would brush it off and just say 'you guys are funny.'"

A woman has every right to have sex with a man and bear his kid. Religious nuts are just going to have to live with it. Almost all my neighbors in Brazil, the largest Roman Catholic country in the world, are living with partners they're not married to and having kids with them, because, while marriage is cheap and easy there, divorce is costly and difficult.

If you are living together but not getting married, because it would be too hard to get divorced, then I'd suggest you are not Roman Catholic in any meaningful sense of the term.

@Ignorance,

Would you care to enumerate all the sins, aside from adultery, that exclude one from "being Catholic in any meaningful sense of the term."

You're leaning dangerously close to Calvinism there, buddy, where the Church is the elect only.

Until God works it out at the last judgement, the Church is both sinners and saints, with a helluva lot more of the former than the latter.

Denial is such a hoot. Especially when the whole family is involved.

Question: Who thinks it is funny to "joke" with a fatherless child about a man he and the mother both know who just looks so much like him"???

Answer: We would ALL joke...

Thomas Jefferson had a redheaded slave boy serving his table.

What's so odd about the man of the house having sex with one of the maid's?

Sally Hemming went with Jefferson to Paris. Paris didn't allow slaves. In Paris, Jefferson went out of his way to shop for a beautiful pair of leather gloves for Sally. (He also broke his arm, trying to show off to a woman, while he "jumped a fence." But fell, instead.)

Were women then more broad-minded?

You know, Sally Hemming, if she really valued her freedom, and was now French-speaking ... Why didn't she just stay in Paris? The Parisians were smitten by women who were thought to be black, but were really 3/4 white.

Sally Hemming had a "sister." This sister is the white woman that Thomas Jefferson married. And, this slave came along, into the marriage, because she had been this gal's servant all of her life. And, because they shared the same father, there was an uncanny resemblence.

If you want to define sex by "clear lines" and religious promises, then you don't know the half of it. You've never really thought about what really happens.

If slavery is so bad, and Sally Hemming had a real choice, she chose to be with Thomas Jefferson. Perhaps, there's no explaining love?

And, perhaps, among blacks, shades of difference really matter. Within five generations ALL the offspring of Sally Hemmings were white. And, Daughters of the Revolution.

Let's see, Pedophile priests activities were always buried among the pomp. Even now, there's a range of "saint making" that exists "to change the subject." While I've read that the church can't find enough men, now, to enter the priesthood. (Even if the reason they were entering was their weird sexual feelings, they didn't want exposed.)

Jimmy Breslin who is a Catholic, and who still believes with all his heart in the Teachings of Christ, has written a book: The Church That Forgot Christ.

But like the queen of england, the pomp and circumstance is designed to wow.

Sex is universal. There's a sliding scale to desire. Some people are just more driven than others.

And, even among gay men, I'd bet only the smallest minority want to be married. It's a pretty promiscuous routine, usually.

I have a wonderful girl friend who is Catholic. She calls herself a "soap box" Catholic. Yet, if you want to see her get angry, watch her face when she talks about the Catholic Funeral Teddy Kennedy got.

It puts her into a rage, I tell ya.

Why? He might get child support and college paid for (maybe) which is significant but that is about it. There is no automatic right to your father's wealth. If Arnold has a will and he is not in it, well he is not in it.

It is not like his mom did not know who the father was. She just made a decision not to tell anyone about it.

Pretty much any sin, so long as you know it is a sin, have had time to consider your actions, and are unrepentant.

Thus, adultry in the heat of passion would not count, but adultry as a long-term lifestyle choice would.

Then why bother? Oh yeah - to put a "nice" sheen on fucking up (other, innocent) people's lives when there's nothing nice about you.

If I was a Catholic, I'd be welcoming Calvin right about now.

Funny you ask that of someone with the handle of "Ignorance is Bliss". Perhaps you are joking. If you want an enumeration try:
Exodus 20:2-17
or Deuteronomy 5:6–21

Both can be found in a book routinely read by Catholics. Some even say those enumerated sins came from God and passed down to some Jew named Moses.

Although credit to IIB; just knowing the sins is one thing, breaking the sin is another, living with the sin/continuing to break it is even another. Personally, if one wants to have kids with their neighbors in Brazil; ain't my problem. But like IIB, I'm skeptical if they understand the teachings of Catholicism.

Much like non-religious jews, there are a significant number of catholics who belong to the church as a cultural matter rather than anything having to do with actual belief. If you can justify a sin listed in both the 10 commandments and the sermon on the mount as ok, maybe you really arent being honest about the teachings of your church.

Ignorance is Bliss needs to get out more. Brazil now officially and fully recognizes gay and straight civil unions. Many of my Brazilian neighbors are in a civil union and are having kids with their partners while still officially married to someone else.

Brazil freely distributes condoms to all school children beginning at age 11. The RC church there has a lot of learning and adapting to do, which is probably why it is dying out while the holy roller Protestants are flourishing.

And I'm not sure why you think I need to get out more. I'm fully aware of how people choose to live, and how others choose to encourage it.

Brazil is also run by a Commie these days. How Catholic it might be, as Ignorance notes, is up for grabs.

PS I see J has given up on the Mormon thing and is going to put the Calvinists in Auschwitz after the Jews.

The Founders of the USA did not care much for Calvinism--or Joseph Smith-like charlatans, for that matter.

All the cool anti-Semites send people on their hate lists there. Why should J be different?

Unless, of course, J does it like his Uncle Joe and has it done in the lot behind City Hall.

PS J forgets (I doubt he knew) there was an Amendment guaranteeing the free practice of all religions, Calvinists, included.

And, last I looked, Joseph Smith had his vision about 40 years after the Constitution was written.

I know! The Founding Fathers channeled Joseph Smith with their tin foil hats.

Just like the one J has.

J said...

Edu., perhaps we'll go back through your comments praising the CSA and Jefferson Davis, Mr PC moralist and crypto-klansman.

Madison wrote against all forms of religious "Enthusiasm", Einstein, including the Joseph Smith sort. That he wrote 40-50 years before the mormon gang appeared doesn't matter--JQ Adams also had words for mormons and freemasons. And funny..the Constitution still holds.

Then, why even bother refuting a irrational sack of white trash such as yourself anyway.

In terms of the debris left behind, this scandal is far worse than that of Weiner--and infinitely less entertaining. I think a glib talker like Weiner might be able to save his marriage. There is no way Arnold could ever straighten this out with Maria. Arnold's transgressions will cause a lot of damaged lives.....Still his flaws have generated nowhere near the amount of comments than those of Weiner. I would submit this as as case study of how political bias shapes not just our opinions, but the vociferocity with which we express them. Very few around here want to stand on the moral high ground with a Kennedy.

Unfortunately that kind odf situation is common in Latinamerica.Manny men form middle and rich classes had their first experinece with the maid.If a patron inpregnate the maid , she will be fired. The wife will blame her for entering tru the eyes of the husband
The lost of respect , i dont buy it. Its also common to find women with 5 children and 5 diferent fathers. But unlike Arnold S the men here wont take care of them.
Here the story amuses only because people think that kind of behaviour does not happen in the USA

What the relationship om Shriver to JFK.? according to the movie about Onasiss, when Jackeline was in labour , JFK was with another woman.
RK and JFK shared Marilyn and teddy killed a woman. So AS was well over the standard of the family

William, everyone on right and left side agrees Arnold is a douche.

Some on the left are defending that douche, Anthony Weiner, despite the truth of his dishonorable behavior.

That's why there are more comments on the latter point. It's not really evidence that the right is hypocritical, since they all had an every harsher appraisal of Arnold.

Sometimes, something that is controversial will be discussed more than something that is not. Go figure.

Jose_K said...

Ignorance is bliss. Sir here in most countries but Brasil 90% of the people boast of being catholics. But less than 1% goes to church, usually only rich people go regularly to Church.Middle class people marry in the church, bapatize their children because is the social use and to avoid prejudices. And because the Church ruled school are by far the best schools availabale, Even the communists marry their daughter by the church and go to catholics schools.I studied in one , 3 out of 33 classmated were jewish, 2 communist and at least two were atheist.
More than 60 % of couples are not married.Around 60% of marriages ends in civil divorce. they remain married by the Church and live with another couple. They will even take communion because the priests dont really care.
They use contraception.
They are againsts abortion , and usually abide by the ban.
They dont even know that premarital sex in banned by church, they believe that is a protestan mania.if aman say he will not have sex before marriage he will be deemed protestant or gay
they willnever confess because priest are to prone to gossip.
We learn evolution from a priest, he never mentioned creationism.
The Church direction has no contact with people.
The priets are by most part communists, thay are in the barrios, the slums competing with the protestans.
In the end cafeteria catholics is not fit.
But never never say anything against the catholics church because you will be answered in anger

Hey Hoosier Daddy,

I don't know of any Protestants who have a religious aversion to using condoms to prevent disease and death. Only the RCs prefer death and serious illness to use of a condom, which might interfere with the RC "nature" obsession, though it seems that the pope has in the last month, for the first time, opened his eyes to the need for condoms for the poor suffering masses.

You say Brazil isn't an RC country? Wait till 2022--you will be right. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protestantism_in_Brazil
