Notification of Donation Received: Total amount: $1.00 USD.

In the gmail today — a $1 Paypal contribution along with the following text, entered in the Paypal form:
Purpose:
Althouse needs to continue delivering news.
Message:
Do remember unbiased coverage of the news will consistently cause anger. If there is no anger the matter is likely to have been trivial.
Now, I really appreciate that. It's only $1, but I can see from the purpose and message that it's somebody who likes the blog, and it's a nice example of a micro-contribution. If everyone who values this blog would throw in a dollar now and then, it would add up quite well.

The PayPal button is always in the sidebar, and I see the donations in my gmail along with whatever the message is.

Those single dollars add up.

The Blonde paid off the mortgage just by saving up all the pennies we'd get in change.

No. Are you?

The Westboro Klan is coming to Madison Saturday to protest the Covenant Presbyterian Church.

Always wanted to counter protest these cretins.

Any ideas?

Best idea gets a contribution from me to the blog.

A couple were up against because they both lost their jobs because of Barack Obama's economy. Their unemployment benefits ran out and their house was foreclosed. The only way they could earn any money was if the wife went out and prostituted herself.

She went out and came back the next morning and emptied her purse on the table. She had made six dollars and forty five cents.

Her husband said "Who gave you five cents."

She said "Everybody."

I actually saw a van from them parked near my post office. I was walking back to my car and saw this white van with these ugly comments on it. Yep, Westboro Church with their internet address - godhatesfag.com - on the side.

I wanted to key it but thought better.

Kind of irked me. Well, more than kind of. What is this doing here?

I hear ya. Although I don't think there 10 are people alive that would have objected.

OK. I get it. I just ordered a 55" LCD thru your Amazon link. Hope it worked.

It was a nice new bright white van which was why I first noticed it. White with red letters. Parked away from most of the cars.

Then I saw all that crap on it and the internet address listed. No driver or passengers. Empty.

My only thought was that it was there because there was a funeral for a local soldier who was killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. That must have been it. No other reason.

Scum.

Yeah, kind of.

Not that what you do here isn't of value, but I just don't see the point in asking for money when you don't really need it.

Please be careful SM and Garage. The Westboro church scum are well known scam artists who make their money off of people who attack them by filing civil suits and getting judgements and settlements.

They are much worse than vile and hatefilled homophobic racists.

They are lawyers.

They're a great photo op. I caught them at a gay-pride march a few years ago. Or... actually, it wasn't them. It was some pretty civil religious folk.

Check out my old photographs for some ideas about painting yourself and posing.

What I would recommend, however, is to go up to them and try to talk to them, in a relentlessly civil and reasonable tone, and bring a photographer to get stills and video of the interaction. Meade might go with you, and, if he does, I'll process what we get out of it for the blog.

This is why you must resolve in advance not to get angry. Don't get angry. Get video. You be the perfectly pleasant, reasonable person while there.

Trooper
We'll see. I doubt I would get arrested for counter protesting them. But I'm going to get as up close and personal as I'm allowed.

Is a "Shirley Westboro eats pussy" sign inappropriate you think?

Because I think it's good for writers to be paid for writing. And $1 is a token of appreciation.

Boring!

Ok so this is probably the best idea, I'll hit the tip jar a little later. I think Meade still has my email, he can send me a note if he wants to go. It's early, 9:30am on Sat.

A couple in Wisconsin still had their 6 figure annual salary and some pretty darn good benefits because of Scott Walker's new rules. They no longer worried about furlough days imposed upon them by the previous governor and they finally felt they had time to pursue their old hobbies - hunting for road kill and annoying people on the internet by posing as liberals.

One morning, at the breakfast table, the wife said, "Gee, Gar, you sure were up late last night. Commenting on your computer down in your man cave or out road kill hunting?"

"Commenting," the husband said.

"Anyone give you hard time?"

He said, "Everybody."

Trooper York said...

But garage if you go with Meade you will be too busy flip caming young protest coed babes with hair armpits to be able to.....errr.....good plan man...wish I could be there!

Meade said...

"It's early, 9:30am on Sat."

Here at Meadhouse, we call that "late."

Trooper York said...

That's hairy armpits by the way.

Ironweightsironrails will also be there.

He always asks Sinead O'Conner or Oscar Gamble?

I'll be there if you are, Gar.

Meade said...

I'll call him Ragi.

And if he hits the wife's tip jar for a buck, I'll even spell it R-A-J-I.

Trooper York said...

Cool. You just need Cedarford to be the nerdy jewish guy and you would be like the dudes from the Big Bang Theory.

But I think Garage likes to be called by the nickname of his favorite Packer: Fuzzy.

@Meade
So you want to have some gold ole bipartisan fun Saturday morning or what?

I gave $50 once and got a short, simple much-appreciated thanks. Then I gave twice as much a few months later and nothing. So I thought to myself, Althouse's blog can't have become the Tribune. But then I thought, maybe it has.

If I didn't write, it's because I didn't see it. I get 1000 gmails a day, which I scan for things to respond to. I apologize.

AA-Understood. I'm not complaining. More pondering. I pay for value. I was wondering if I--we--had assumed to much about our "relationship" with the proprietor.

Proprietrix?

Is your blog more famous because of the content? Or because of the probably unique commenter community you allow, encourage, tolerate, etc?
