Never played Hive the restaurant menu looks good, but like all large university towns tofu dishes are a must. Professor you sure drink a lot, someone might mistake you for a lawyer instead of a law professor. Bottoms up

I did drink a lot: 2 whole cups of coffee.

The game is much more complex than it looks. My kids are much better at it than I am.

Hmmm, never heard of it.

Looks like you had fun, though.

Wow, I can't believe Altouse is playing Hive.
Her cred went up with me tenfold (even though she still voted for Obama the first time - groan).

Not my favorite game by a long shot, but I like how it's even known as a game. there are a bunch of other modern games like Hive (that I would lump in as Euro games) that a lot of people don't know about but which are all really good as games.

jr565 said...

And technically she's playing Hive:carbon (black and white version of Hive).
Just to point out my nerd credentials.

Irene said...

Is "Hive" a derivative of "Go?"

jr565 said...

no, its just a board game that has bug tiles. Each bug has a special =move and the object is to surround your opponents piece.
It plays in about five minutes. But I can see it appealing to people who like Chess (though it's much quicker)

The POTUS OBAMA destroyed the GOP.

WHY?

Because the GOP dug its own hole-in-the-ground

by:

- Rejecting science and data.
- Rejecting interests/needs of women and minorities.
- Rejecting the fact that most voters are interested in innovation, ideas, accomplishments.
- ETC

Got a question. A business with the sexist name "Hostess" is going out of business. Are there any feminists rejoicing?

So you are at a Cafe called Graze...close enough.

We went to see Spielberg's Lincoln this afternoon and enjoyed every minute of it.

It was more of a lawyer's movie than an historical panorama that I had expected. Without the Constitutional Law complexity of the day being explained in great detail, the plot makes no sense, and I expect few will understand it anyway.

The movie ends with Thaddeus Stevens and Lincoln joining forces to win the 2/3 vote in a House for the 13th Amendment. Of course it was Lincoln's assassination that Stevens finishes the job by adding 14th and 15th thereby reversing the 10th's reservation of power to the States to an effective grant of powers to the States only when the Federals say so.

It is well worth the time to see it. IMO Con Law students need to see it as course material.

Brought home 5 puppies today 3 months old, Black Lab/Golden Ret. It's a puppy circus at my house. I can only keep them for one day, I already have 5 full size dogs. Hoping to get them to take over someone else's life tomorrow.

I rented a movie on Youtube today for the first time. That works pretty well. It was a sci/fi I never heard of before called "Splice" - $1.99. Some young very attractive geneticists create a human hybrid animal, that grows very quickly of course. It starts out looking like a cross between a bald Boston Terrier and a chicken, and then grows up to be a young Sinead O'connor with ostrich legs. The special effects on the creature were very realistic. It acted mostly human and ended up too human. It seduced Adrien Brody, and then changed sex to a male and raped his girlfriend. That is just rude. I enjoyed it on a rainy L.A. morning.

Saw the new Bond movie tonight and it was awwwwwwwesome. Great hammy--but not too hammy--villain acting from Javier Bardem and Mr. Craig was in fine form. My husband thought they showed his muscles more than was dignified, but I disagreed : )

Felt sorry for all the hapless boyfriends and husbands who were lined up for the Twilight movie with their giddy womenfolk. Silly ladies; that's what your girlfriends are for.

The Twinkie Defence has such a nice ring to it... I'm predicting it will survive like the sound of a record scratch means stop/wait a second.

Only a few people use vinyl records anymore but that scratch sound effect continues to survive.

Oh, Victoria, if you see this, I am so sorry for your loss.

And, FWIW, one of my favorite posts on your defunct blog wonderfully depicted the vein-, sinew-, and bone-deep connection between your parents, your mother and father, and how that powerfully affected you. Here's the link.

I am sorry for your mom's loss as well.

R.I.P., your dad, and I wish for peace to be on both you and your mom in the fullness of time.

Regards,

L

As always, the little weasel shows not only no respect, compassion, or empathy (yes, he is a Liberal, truly and is still no doubt smarting from the bitch slapping the great vb once gave him), but is headed for a fall in other ways.

In 37 Chicago precincts, 0 votes for Romney.

The money quote, from (are you ready?) the NBC affiliate in the Windy City:

In critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois there are a lot of precincts in Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Chicago which reported 100% of their votes cast for Obama. These add up to many 10's of thousands of votes for Obama and 0 for Romney. I repeat, 0 for Romney. I have read a number of articles about this and people knowlegable in Political Science and Statistics are starting to take notice of this.Statistically, even if among 10's of thousands of voters all wanted to vote for Obama, it would not be possible to receive 100% of the vote because at least a few would make a mistake and vote incorrectly for Romney. Not to mention the fact that a least a few of those 10's of thousands might actually disagree with Obama. These types of election returns are only seen in countries run by dictators.

This is a long way from over.

It's easy to understand why so many democrats are resistant to making our voting system fair and honest.
Even the UN thinks we are nuts.

The democrat party benefits from fraud and all they have to do is scream "disenfranchisement".

Seems to me we had an election, and Mr Obama got a second term. The woulda coulda shold haves dont seem particular appropriate IMO.

Here's the political landscape as I see it--the D's control the administration and the senate; the R's control the house--I would submit its time to focus on policy.

No, it's not my nipple, it's Kentucky Liz's, she was telling all of us about it a few weeks ago, I was concerned.

Unknown said...

Thanks Inga, it's good to see that at least a few of us care.

I know a lot of sports fanatics who make excuses when their team loses, and in some cases they blame the ref and say stupid things like "we would have won but the ref stole the game from us." I understand why they say things like that and I don't believe it's a sign of cognitive failure.

So when edutcher whimpers about how Mittens "was winning" or when he cries about how the election was stolen by cheating Democrats, I write it off to his unwillingness to accept facts that contradict his deeply held wishes. But once edutcher started insisting that Mittens won in a "landslide"--a claim that even the goofiest conspiracy theorists would find ridiculous--he crossed the line from extreme partisan denial to lunacy.

I hope he gets help. He needs it.

I particularly like the PoliOptics logo. (The web address has the unfortunate lower-casing of the caps, so it looks like you're going to a site about polio. Bad optics. How ironic.)

On the show, he mentioned that there is a blog for aesthetics in athletics, called UniWatch.

It's about the importance of the visual in politics and athletics.

i thought the Divine Miz Althouse might appreciate that, being such a visual creature herself.

Roger J. said...

Seems to me the politics of R control of the house, and the D's control of the administration and senate will result in divided government--and the libertarian side of me thinks thats a good thing. And if the estimable Mr Silver things the R's will keep control of the house in 2014, we will continue to have divided government--which to me is always a good thing.

kentuckyliz said...

Thanks for asking, Inga. I saw the NP at my oncologist's office and was able to squeeze out some Cheez Liz for her, and she took a sample in a culture kit.

I was supposed to call back for results but I've been busy--my conference, busy registration period, etc.--I keep forgetting to call because once I get to the office, all I think about is what I need to do at work.

You'd think if it were frightening bad news, they'd be trying like crazy to reach me. But I know that's not always the case, either.

Chemobrain's a bitch. I forgot to cancel a Friday deposition until Thursday evening--TG my attorney was still in her office.

my thought again on this beautiful Sunday morning: I care about solutions to our country's problems. It will be up to our elected represenatives to fix them. As long as there is no consensus among the political classes, we will be doomed to repreat an other four years of stalemate--and the country and its people will bear the brunt of the failings of our political class,

Unknown said...

Stalemate isn't actually stalemate if stalemate is the goal.

Feel free to quote me.

Unknown said...

Of course Kentucky has a football team. They have a basketball team too. In fact, as far as I can tell, those are the only two reasons for the existence of UK.

Roger J. said...

Jake: consider yourself quoted re stalemate--and I agree that, regretably, stalement is the goal. As long as our elected officials consider "kicking the can down the road," not much will happen. Sad

Anybody watch The Larry Sanders Show?

I've laughed more in the last couple of days than the last couple of months.

It has the "peek behind the curtain" aspect that lets you feel as if you are in on a secret, yet is always very funny on its own joke-to-funny ratio merits regardless of the endless cameos and the idolism/workplace power play realms the show enters.

Only a couple of nasty Hollywood bigotry jokes about C. Thomas and Jesse Helms so far. Considering the jokes that abound because they are funny and not hateful, I don't mind the prejudiced jokes as much as I do in today's dimwitted film and television (which I don't pay for beyond Netflix as it happens).

J. Garofalo is kinda sweet in it too in her own small way, which I found very surprising.

The money quote, from (are you ready?) the NBC affiliate in the Windy City

Wrong. As usual, edutcher proves he can't read and process simple sentences.

The quote he claims is from the NBC affiliate in Chicago is actually from a reader comment. As we all know, websites don't require readers to leave rational comments, so people like edutcher and the lunatic who left the comment edutcher cites are free to wander about the internet and attach their crazy opinions to various websites.

The fact that some reader posts an ignorant rant about statistics and dictatorships at a news website doesn't mean that the news organization promotes the nutty theory.

It would be a really swell surprise if edutcher got something right sometime.
