ABANDONED!

I'm just a black dog thrown out in the glare,
Sun glasses they haven't provided a pair;
Neither for warmth was I offered a schnapps,
Meadehouse' parting shot was "You're on your own, Pops!"

As Christmas Eve approaches, it reminds us of the effect of the birth in Bethlehem that accomplished what the old Hebrew Prophet Simeon said upon seeing the baby Jesus being presented for the 8th day offering at Temple, "For my eyes have seen your salvation which you prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles and the glory of your people Israel."

I too wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Unfortunately, whoever stole one of my lighted trees staked right in front of my front steps last night took a little of the joy out of it for me.

We have displayed those trees for over 20 years, and they are not something with which you could just walk off. The thought that some small minded individual was brazen enough to pull up my street-lit driveway within feet of my front door to filtch a piece of my family's holiday cheer is pretty upsetting.

Merry Christmas. I've been wanting to share the following quote from Eric Ambler's "A Coffin for Demetrios" published in 1939.

"In a dying civilisation, political prestige is the reward not of the shrewdest diagnostician but of the man with the best bedside manner. It is the decoration conferred on mediocrity by ignorance."

With that sad thought, Hopes for a better New year.
