Those two dogs remind me of my childhood favorite label on the various bottles of booze in my parents liquor cabinet.

Speaking of black and white, I crack up every time I go to Drudge and see that photo of DJ Cornerblack : "Can't be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can't be…in the locker room man. Nah."

The 49ers need to start having diversity workshops like everyone else.

I loved those Scottie dogs too. I still think Scottie dogs are the cutest, even though the only one I ever met was an hysterical heel biter.

We have 2 bassets, a Queensland Heeler, two chihuahuas, and a cat.

The cat is a bit bigger than the chihuahuas. The Heeler won't accept it (though the other dogs do, and it kind of looks like a dog: and if you don't think so write how cats and dogs look different).

I've missed commenting on Althouse.

Been playing Texas Hold'Em lately... 'cuz I seen it on ESPN and wanted to be cool... cool like ESPN.

Commenting on Althouse is awfully similar to playing Texas Hold'Em.

You are dealt two cards and these are like Althouse's posts. Some are worth playing. Others aren't.

Everyone checks with preliminary eyes, and then comes the three-card flop, or the other commenters' comments. Sometimes the flop makes your hand look better and you see an opportunity to take the pot. Other times you look at what's on the table and cry Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachtani!.

If you play on, there's the turn and the river, the comments continue and sometimes a bit of a bidding war or comment war erupts, sometimes the dealer reveals the card you wanted or Frau Professor tosses you a bone or perhaps chides your stupidity. You might fold. Or you might bluff. Or you might realize you've got an insurmountable hand and, with a buoyant spirit, start singing Kenny Rogers...

you gotta know when to hold 'em
know when to fold 'em
know when to walk away
know when to run

you never count your money
when y'er sittin' at the table
there'll be time enough for countin'
when the dealin's done

And then the final bets come and, if you are still in, you might win the pot. WHOOPIE!

Finally: On to the next hand or on to the next post. Maybe to be played, or maybe not-- regardless, the game is always going on, and the last hand is history, best forgotten, whether you won or not.

They had them.

They didn't turn out well.

Somebody got fired once for a diversity workshop gone bad.

Seriously.

I'm guessing they'll start up again.

I ordered $100 dollars worth of 9mm ammo two weeks ago from Cabelas. It was back-ordered when I made the purchase, but promised for a couple of weeks out.

I recently received an email stating that the ammunition was another two weeks out.

Can I deny my children?? They like to shoot! It's for the children!!

Today, I reviewed their website. They aren't selling 9mm on the website.....well....hollow points, but a paper target don't care.

@Julius: Are you the same Julius something-or-other who "knew" Oceanside and was convinced that I worked for Darrell Issa?

This was 2 or 3 years ago.

@chickelit -

Echoes of a past life. The Julius here is the same as the Julius there, just reincarnate. And bigger faster stronger, of course. Still got that oceanview apartment at 999 Pacific Street too...

@chickelit-

Oh wait... you are the chumgirl of the Royal Clucker, isn't you?

Darrell Issa is redeemed, incidentally. Used to hate him but now I love him. Best Congressman ever. All because of his support on tech issues and Internet freedom. America, and Republicans, desperately needeth more ex-criminal Congresspersons like him.

More like "At the Black and Yellow Cafe" ... But who wants to talk about Pittsburgh's sports teams anyway.

re the photo: Does the tail-up, tail-horizontal, mean anything or is it just a frozen moment?

Donald Driver announced his retirement today. (sigh)

I don't know of a better team player in the NFL who played so joyfully.

Thanks for the entertainment!

These silly dog standoffs are extremely 2 dimensional so unreal they don't even cast shadows.

Anyone interested in buying some 18th century American silver spoons, made by famous silversmith Philip Syng Jr? I'm selling some...

Palladian said...

Philip Syng Jr was a very interesting man. Among his other achievements, he made the "Syng Inkstand", which was used by the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

I hate selling the spoons, but priorities, you know...

Palladian...looks like you have a nibble at ebay. Cool.

Now tell me about your perfumes, please. I love green notes. Do you have all kinds of scents like lavender and black pepper? What is your idea of a good mix, that you personally like?

Wince said...

Their opposing postures clearly indicate dominance and submission.

Between the two, is the white dog usually top dog?

Yes. I'm a bit nervous because I didn't set a "reserve price" (because eBay would have charged me almost 100 dollars to do it), and the spoons are worth at least four times the current high bid. I'm hoping they get bid up to a fair price, or I'm out on the street!

Now tell me about your perfumes, please. I love green notes. Do you have all kinds of scents like lavender and black pepper? What is your idea of a good mix, that you personally like?

I've been developing various different perfumes for years now. My compositions tend to be complex formulas and somewhat classical. I've actually been working on a strange green floral perfume for a while now. I share your love of green notes; some of my favorite perfumes are "green" perfumes, none better than the late, lamented "Vent Vert" by Balmain. My strange green tropical floral is a (distant) homage to the structure of "Vent Vert".

I have hundreds of notes and materials that I use. Lavender is a favorite material of mine, and is a central note in my first fully-realized composition, "Champlevé", which is an anise/fennel/mint-inflected perfume with a medieval rose at its heart.

I've also done a lavender soliflore that I'm quite fond of- a rich, simple, beautiful lavender based on the best French high-altitude-grown lavender oil from Sault.

I also love black pepper as a note; it's a wonderfully versatile material that I've included in a number of compositions that I'm developing.

If you (or anyone else) is interested in some samples, drop me a line! My contact information is here.

deborah said...

Thanks for info, will be in contact. Now I'll be worried about your ebay! Good Luck.

Hank Kingsley Jr. is the best character to be a character that inspires another character, and that is saying a lot (there is a lil' "Maude" Lebowski out there after all) but not enough.

Larry was cool, but a little too lacking in sentiment like Hank.

What the world needs now is HKTRE.

Hank the thurd.

Black and white and get together.. What a cliche! But I guess in the age of Obama you have to say it out loud for all the racebaiters.

Palladian, those spoons are beautiful. I hope the selling price reflects that.

Uh, please don't mention Black and White Scotch. I had a horrible experience with the stuff back when I was in college and couldn't look at a bottle of Scotch for 20 years after that.
