Sharyl Attkisson resigns — after 2 decades with CBS News — "frustrated with what she saw as the network’s liberal bias..."

"... an outsize influence by the network’s corporate partners and a lack of dedication to investigative reporting, several sources said."
She increasingly felt that her work was no longer supported and that it was a struggle to get her reporting on air.

At the same time, Attkisson’s reporting on the Obama administration, which some staffers characterized as agenda-driven, had led network executives to doubt the impartiality of her reporting. She is currently at work on a book — tentatively titled “Stonewalled: One Reporter’s Fight for Truth in Obama’s Washington” — that addresses the challenges of reporting critically on the administration.
The book can be pre-ordered at Amazon, here, but its scheduled publication date isn't until November 4, 2014. That's election day, which is an odd choice. Why not get it out before election day... as long as you're fighting for truth? Maybe she's planning on writing it over the course of the election season, covering the elections, and hitting the airwaves after the election, analyzing things and selling the book.

Why not get it out before election day....

Because she doesn't want to get audited or have BATF break down her door to see if she's violating a city ordinance on the correct type of cat litter?

She'd be safer getting it out after Inauguration Day, though.

A resignation long time in coming.

She reported on the Obama administration - it being the only administration we have had to report on for the last 5 years.

They doubted her impartiality, really? This sounds like more than a bit of projection by her critics. Her concern was matched with the administration's opaque communications and actions.

And taht was Sharyl Atkinsson who woke up in the night and saw her computer coming to life.

Sorry.

And that was Sharyl Attkisson who woke up in the night and saw her computer coming to life.

It took her 20 years to figure out that CBS has liberal bias?

Former CBS reporter Bernard Goldberg wrote a book about CBS' liberal bias in 2003.

And 10 years ago, Dan Rather pulled that TANG forgery bullshit on George Bush just before the election.

Those were pretty big clues, Sharyl.

She is a great reporter and hopefully she will find somewhere else to do her good work. Remember that CBS News President David Rhodes is the brother to Ben Rhodes, Deputy National Security Advisor and Assistant to the President.

A conflict of interest? And my guess why Sheryl met opposition of her reporting. Her most recent big story was about Benghazi. Maybe the Obama administration has something to hide?

But Attkisson had become a polarizing figure at the network, sources there said. While some championed her relentless dedication to investigations — ranging from defective Firestone tires to the Fast and Furious gun-walking scandal — others saw evidence of a political agenda, particularly against President Barack Obama

When you investigate Obama it's a political agenda. When you investigate a Republican it's just doing your job.

So she leaves with her credibility intact. The Obama sycophants like Steve Croft, not so much.

I most curious about her claim of computer hacking. That would be a big scandal if CBS was spying in their own employee. But if she doesn't have any proof it would give ammo to her critics.

The obligatory if this happened at Fox, a liberal reporting Fox was protecting Bush, the libs would be simultaneously screaming their heads off and thumping their goofies.

Her holding to basic truth in factual presentations made her useless to the Government Ministry of Propaganda/CBS Division.

The Art of War is the art of deception. And the Regime in power in DC has been at war with middleclass American's to steal their inheritance since 2006.

What did she expect? Fair treatment?

No one ever said Sharyl was a quick study. 2 decades. Sheesh.

Interesting, this post below the one about the "climate caucus". The Man-Made Global Warming Demagogues repeat bogus references to unanimous opinions about the source of warming, yet these opinions and scholarly papers are vetted by the gatekeepers who reject challenges to their dogma, refuse to publish dissenting opinion, then claim that "everyone agrees". With Atkisson gone, everyone can agree that Obama's awesome, Democrats are good, and republicans are worse than Hitler. The science is settled!

She is what reporters should be. But here is the sad part. The news media has moved so far into the Democrat camp that when your a Sharyl Attkisson, you look like a right wing nutjob who belongs at fox.

This is why we need another news station to the right of Fox. It'll make the fair and balanced nature of Fox News more clear.

Of course David Rhodes' brother is Ben Rhodes, Obama's WH Political Director. And ATTKINSON is fired for being biased???!!! As well as Lara Logan, another ray of sanity in the Stalinist line-up CBS presents to the world?

CBS is totally monolithic and should move to Pyongyang to fit in an appropriate environment!!!

With a book out. Needs the "I'm skeptical" tag

"Why not get it out before election day...."

Isn't it the publisher, and not the writer, who establishes publication dates for books?

No n.n,

They doubted Sharyl's ability to say what they wanted her to say.

No body up there likes people to think for themselves. Doing that might lead to finding the truth.

There are an enormous number of people who don't trust the media. You would think CBS and other news outlets would want to keep an investigative reporter like Attkisson around, if only to lend a smidgen of credibility to their claims of impartiality. They don't even hire tokens. No conservatives need apply.

One of the few non-Fox News Channel reporters who isn't just a Democrat operative with a byline. While the rest of those DNC mouthpieces were in a collective coma, she shone a bright light on what should have been a scandal of enormous consequence, Fast and Furious.

If liberal bias bothered her, why stay at CBS for 20 years?

It's not like it suddenly changed.

Book coming out #skeptical

She waited long enough so people did not think she was the 'brains' behind Lara Logan's false reporting, but likely is a casualty of that.

Crimso said...

Of course her work was agenda-driven. As an actual journalist, she has the agenda of holding the government accountable. Not the only possible appropriate agenda for a journalist, but an unquestionably valid one.

Now, someone might claim she was biased against Obama, and cite a lack of similar interest in the Bush administration (I don't know if the record shows that or not, and it is immaterial to my point in any case). Maybe it's because there was no lack of media opposition to Bush, to the point of fabricating "evidence" by her colleagues at CBS. When your coworkers are going to those lengths, it's easy to see why she wouldn't want to do "me too" stories. When Obama took office, she noticed the roaring sound of the air as the vacuum formed. Instant wide-open area to cover.

Crimso said...

And I'll add that if the record does show a similar interest in the Bush administration, then my previous suggestion of her agenda stands without any explanation needed.

Hagar said...

Sharyl Attkisson "investigated" the Bush administration, but did not stand out because everybody was doing it, and most more agressively than she.
After Obama was elected she just kept on going, but now she stood out because she was about the only one outside of Fox who did. And that even though, as has been noted, CBS cut her stories way back, so that she actually appeared mre moderate than in the Bush years.

Long ago, Bernard Goldberg, who worked for CBS News for over 20 years, wrote two books on newsrooms of the MSM. They are "Bias" and "Arrogance". Funny that Atkinsson seems to be surprised that the NYT doesn't want actual journalism...

Wait, what? She hung around at CBS *after* Dan Rather and Mary Mapes were fired?
