"Your proof [Sunday morning talk shows] are relevant is that Joe Biden made a gaffe about gay marriage?"

"Joe Biden can't part his lips without making a gaffe. If you are hanging your hat on that one, do away with them. All, except for Chris Wallace's show on Fox, are hopelessly biased towards left-wing guests, viewpoints, and issues. That is what was lost with Russert. While his own views may have skewed left, he brought a rigorous and fair attitude in questioning every guest. A liberal a conservative like me could love. They are all gone now."

A comment at a decidedly lame Washington Post piece titled "Five myths about the Sunday talk shows."

They aren't all gone, but they are certainly made to wander the wilderness. Case in point: Mickey Kaus.

Its more war on women. Where is Katie with a point to make Couric?

Even liberals no longer need Sunday morning talk shows to synchronize their orthodoxy--that's a function the internet now performs.

Russert never struck me as that great, but then I didn't watch.

Nor did I watch Firing Line for that matter.

It's all performance.

Why are the sunday morning shows relevant when you can turn on FOX or MSNBC and get the same format on most days of the week.
If I were the networks, I'd sell those shows to Fox and instead show cartoons or infomercials
Also, if I'm around and they're on I will actually watch them. They're still relevant to me.

I'm more partial to Red Eye though, to be honest. Or Cashin In', Forbes on Fox.

Red Eye should be getting all kinds of awards and Emmys. It has way more laughs in one episode than you would get from an entire season of SNL.

It was the combination of the sunday talk shows and access to the internet that allowed me to figure out pretty quickly that Senator Joe Biden was a moron.

A very self confident moron, but a moron none the less.

I'd be watching one of the shows (while recording another) and hear Biden say something delivered with TOTAL confidence that what he was saying was 100% true. If what he'd said conflicted with what I thought I knew, I'd pause the show and start searching the internet. And more often than not, I'd find that Biden was wrong.

What passes for conversation, engagement even, is atrocious. Blacks concerns never get a full hearing (even after riots - where's Civil Rights?) but these fools think they're covering it all.

Chris Wallace?

And I thought I was on drugs,...

It's tempting to say that we're going to miss Joe Biden someday, but no. the supply of unintentionally humorous politicians is inexhaustible.

Interesting window into the mindset of the WP readership. Most of the comments there seem to be complaining that the Sunday shows are all "controlled by zionists", or are "the far right debating the farther right".

I like This Week with Steffie Stephanopolous to see the -coordinated Liberal Action Message ("ALEC", "Koch Bros.", etc.) from Kitty vanden Heuvel.
