"I'm taking it back to the 80s... Actually, it's just more comfortable."

I approve!

B ball players started the whole baggy shorts thing. Before that big bermuda shorts were for old guys and the BEF.

And it was all just to cover up the player's girdles. Uh I mean compression shorts.

Not everybody wants to go back to the 80s.

The report quotes one sailor - whose name and rank are redacted - saying that, "Capt. Brown's leadership style is caustic and intimidating and is something he would consider 'old school' or from the '80s."

He was trying to cut down on the loss of female crew to pregnancy and discharge. In Gulf War I, the Navy had 25% of female crew become pregnant and request discharge. That was soon after female crew on warships was approved.

"What happened to the disdain for men in shorts??"

There has always been an exception for sports where the traditional uniform is shorts.

This is an issue of what kind of shorts. I think the long, swishy, silky skirt-like shorts that are usual these days are horrible.

I like to see outfits that make a better spectacle out of spectator sports.

Whoa! Ann Althouse just approved of men wearing shorts . . . well, at least one man.

Next we will see the return of Afros and "Doctor J" will return for an encore.

Yesteryear is finally here, Ke-mo sah-bee.

I think the Professor just likes to see powerful thighs.

It's really hard to find short shorts for men. Rugby shorts are the best option if you can find them.

The long shorts were not a fashion improvement. I always suspected it would just be a matter of time until some player or team went to the short style, and that style would reemerge, if not explode back into fashion.

I wish the style of ball would go back in the day, too. Meade's boy Rick Mount says it was much more of a players' game in our era; now it's a coaches' game.

But compared to today, nobody played any defense at all back then. That would explain why it is was a much better game to watch.

For shame! Breezers keep women's' thoughts pure, free from wicked temptation of hairy haunches. Get thee to a hock--ery, ice rink, that is.

Long shorts are an improvement for most men. (Actual trousers a bigger improvement.) Exceptional athletes are not most men (or women.) I would not be surprised if athletic competitions in the nude (or nearly nude) didn't come back in to fashion some day.

I totally agree with Ann. Maybe some youngsters will take the hint and either wear long pants or real shorts.

Bob R, I presume you me Womens Sports?
