This is, without question, the best argument I have ever seen for electing Hillary Clinton in 2016.

It's quite bizarre to experience the power of emotion and art so... starkly. There is no content to the argument. It works entirely through emotion and one must fight off the influence that strikes so insidiously into the lower depths of the nervous system.

LBJ in '64 used fear. Nixon in '68 used anger. Reagan in '84 used contentment. Hillary in '16 will use pity.

The white working class has been the class in play in American politics since the late 1960s. One election they go with the Democrats, the next they go with Republicans. Neither party has the foggiest idea what to do to help them and if we were all honest we'd see that no one has the foggiest idea - not the left base of the Democrats nor the right base of the Republicans nor any combo in between. this substitutes pure condescension unmediated by any actual idea about what to do at all. But I am skeptical it will work. I'd rather watch Jack Nicholson coming home from the oil fields to his hillbilly wife with Tammy Wynette singing "Stand by Your Man" in the opening of Five Easy Pieces. And I suspect most good old boys and a lot of others would also.

"Could have spent the stimulus modernizing our electrical grid, for another."

The electrical grid is vulnerable to an EMP attack. Many many millions would die from a successful attack. We could have spent the stimulus on spare components to be placed on site of critical installations, greatly reducing the time to get the system back up. But noooooooo. We pissed it all away.

Where's my medal?

No medal but you did earn a klondike Bar!

They must have "photoshopped" Hillary into the evening review at the Iwo Jima Memorial. I am sure she never went there willingly.

Using the USMC as a prop is the only way she would know how to use it.

Break the glass ceiling! Some of us learned in high school that males will use any opportunity to look up a skirt. The coin technique has been available since at least 1984 (or mayhaps earlier as enshrined in the movie "Splash"). And don't forget upskirt images from cellphones.

Ms. Rodham Clinton evidently prefers the use of "pants" as a noun, and since fashion trumps substance, shut up you nasty boys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmTd1fky3AQ.

Does Ms. Warren sew her own pants?

"A vote for Hillary is a vote for your daughter, a vote for your wife ... a vote for all the great ladies in your life. And you'll be gettin' a lot more lovin' in the bedroom from your wife. So grab your sledge hammers and suit up, boys. We've gotta' fight for our women. It's boot scootin' time."

Dang. I see now why Ann finds this so compelling. A man against Hillary is a misogynist who will never get any again.

"This is, without question, the best argument I have ever seen for electing Hillary Clinton in 2016."

So, faint praise, then?

@Fritz: "We need to break the glass ceiling once and for all, each and every one of us."

Or maybe the glass table.

Heh. You are evil! ;)

God, that was funny. I can't wait for the Mitt Romney gangsta rap. And maybe the Indigo Girls will do a spot for Rick Santorum.

But you have to give it to her, Hillary is a supportive wife. There is no one in the world who would work harder to besmirch and intimidate the women her husband sexually assaulted.

Althouse, can you go more into depth on why you found it so moving? Was it the motorcycle rescue scene, or where exactly did you start tearing up?

Yes, and I understand she uses every part of the buffalo.

Well Ann you see it as the best argument for electing Hillary--reaches down into the nervous system etc. .

I see it as reaching down and affecting both ends of my alimentary canal with violent wretching on at least one end of said canal.

I understand that the same clown who wrote this piece did a Viva Obama with mariachi music in 2008.

Henry said...

The song was written by Democratic political operative, and media producer Miguel Orozco, who wrote a series of Latin-flavored songs celebrating Barack Obama in the 2008 election.

Given that fact, and given that the return-to-normalcy theme must, by definition, stand in contrast to the current Presidency, this is a truly surreal piece of work.

You came back in time / learning, hindsight's always right

Vote for Hillary and African Americans will disappear. Wait. There is one African American in the video. He's a lonely guy the white people invited to Thanksgiving.

And now, it's 2016 / And this time, I'm thinkin', guys

This time, white guys who happen to be Democrats, put your thinkin' caps on. Vote in the primaries for the white lady.

p.s. Next, I expect the Hillary campaign to license the Who's Won't be Fooled Again to reclaim the "young persons" vote.

p.p.s. Rhyme is hard. What rhymes with Hillary? Distillery. Pillory. Field artillery. Aux armes, citoyens!

Althouse will vote Hillary! and take at least two years, just past the 2018 election, to admit who wrong she was to do so.

Because history repeats itself, first as tragedy then as farce.

A vote for Hillary is a vote for all the real misbehavior of the first Clinton presidency, from trumped up charges against the Travel Office personnel to allow a crony to take the job, to smearing half the population with a lie so you don't have to accept your own wrongdoing, but with farcical elements of Russian, Chinese, Iranian and Islamist expansionism to make it really, really fun!

Henry said...

To clarify further:

It is impossible to see this video as anything other than an exorcism of Barack Obama. He's the guy that inexplicably beat Hillary Clinton the last time she ran (because folks weren't "thinkin'") and he's the unspecified person that represents the foil for her declared virtues of experience and toughness (and femaleness).

And yet Mr. Obama and his presidency are utterly absent from the narrative of the video. Not even Hillary Clinton's role as Secretary of State makes the cut. We made a mistake, the video says. Vote for Hillary and let it be purged from history. It will be as if it never happened.

Then it would have been good.

Henry--the old maxim that "If you have to declare your virtues, you don't have any virtues" rings true in Hillary's case.

As for the bearded guitar playing dude--well some folks will do anything for money.

Oh my. I laughed out loud. Looks like something The Onion made up. And I'm a centre left Canuck who tried to give Hillary money in 2008. I got a nice note back calling me a foreign national. Lol.

I would like to see Hillary invited to Netroots and try to demonstrate her progressive cred.

If she throws out the first pitch at a Mets' game, remember, it will be impermissible to say that she throws like a girl.

Ug..
There's time to make this err..piece more potent.
It should start out with her "I'm baaack!"
Then, with the country/southern theme cooking and the ongoing concern over her lack of "new car smell", the perfect addition would be a section with her saying in that fine accent:
"I aint no wayze Tyyyrrred"
The end needs to refer to "What difference does it make?!!"
