"Protesters in Madison" are "asking high school students to again leave class to attend Wednesday afternoon's rally" about "over the fatal shooting of an unarmed biracial man by a white police officer."

According to a very brief article at Channel3000, a local press outlet.

I think it's terrible for students to skip school to go to a protest, and whoever is advocating this deserves condemnation. But who, specifically, is calling on students to put protest above education and respect for rules? I need some names. It's not fair to attribute this bad behavior to all of the protesters.

Somewhere, a decision was made to begin referring to the dead 19-year-old (Tony Robinson) as a "biracial man." Perhaps that's how Robinson self-identified or what his family has requested.

Channel3000 also has an article titled "Network journalists say Madison is not Ferguson":
"I’ve been impressed here by the way everyone’s worked together: the police, the police union. And, of course, the family of the man who was killed,” CBS News field producer Mark Hooper said. “All asking for calm. All saying they trust the police department. Everybody working together to keep things calm.”

“One of the things I saw in Madison was older African American males sitting down with younger African American males. And they shared their experiences and fears, and hopes, in order to have a conversation for how they could go forward and how they can take action,” CBS News associate producer Ryan Corsaro said. “And I think that helped the situation to remain calm.”...

“When it came to the (Ferguson) protest side and the police side, things escalated very quickly. And things continued to do so night after night after night,” Corsaro said. “Here in Madison we didn't see the type of fervent anger with uncontrolled crowds. We still had crowds in Madison that were loud and fervent, but they weren't committing any acts of violence or theft or destruction of property.”

Are there radical doctors writing excuses ? Maybe not as unions aren't involved yet.

"All saying they trust the police department."

Why the protests then?

Well when you are a few hundred blacks surrounded by a few hundred thousand whites its best not be riotin' and lootin'.

I would begin with the usual suspects in the occupy crowd who are adept at coopting tragedies to fit their narrative. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail. Any teachers/juveniles who ditch school for this should be held accountable for truancy at best and inciting riots at worst with zero tolerance.

Given the disparate impact on the black student body, shouldn't DOJ step in and jail some protest leader :)

Multiracial and
multi-species

Your Homo sapien ancestor likely kept a Neanderthal or Denisovan slave girl after ethnically cleansing their village...

You are the result...

How nice that CBS thinks Madison isn't Ferguson.

Getting out of an obligation like a day of class or work (unless it means actually losing pay) is an empty gesture. Give up your leisure time if you're so devoted to your cause.

I've come to appreciate the new trend of hashtag activism--it's an easy, meaningless gesture but at least it doesn't waste police resources or block traffic.

Not every situation conforms to the template being used by the protesters. Yes it was a white cop. And yes it was a black, and now interracial man shot.
Doesn't mean the cop was in the wrong. So, please, protest kids, stop wasting our time with your endless griping about fake issues.
If this were a white THUG killed by cops would anyone other than his family and friends care, if the cops weren't in the wrong?
So I don't care, simply because he's black.

Jason said...

Yes...kids leaving school to rally will certainly make the investigation of this go faster. It was beyond hilarity when Paul Soglin got up with a megaphone the other day and proclaimed that the protestors should focus their energy on things like "school funding". LOL

Its like the people of Madison dont know how to respond or react to this. After all, in the liberal utopia bubble of Madison and Dane County, things like this arent supposed to happen. From Scott Walker reforming government to now cops who are assaulted shooting suspects, the libs in Dane County have too much real world stuff going on.

@Tank. When there are two blacks in town and one of them gets arrested, that's 500 per 1000.

Yeah, to take advantage of mob dynamics, the size of the mob has to overwhelm everything else. I think Furguson is about 52% black, Madison 7-8%.

Tank said...

@Bob

Madison has two blacks?

We all know that race is the end all and be all now. It's not enough to protest police abuse--the police abuse must be due to racism.

The activist Left has an unhealthy obsession with race. It's like a sickness.

Correction to above - Ferguson was 52% black in 2000 census, in 2010 it was 67%. In 1970, it was 1%.

Bob R said...

One big difference between Madison and Ferguson is that Madison doesn't use it's police force nearly as much in the role of tax collectors. Read Radley Balko in the Washington Post on the use of petty fines as a revenue stream. There is something to be said for high property taxes.

JAORE said...

There is something more to be said for restrained spending.

Bob R said...

@Tank - Joke. I lived in Madison for four years. Really enjoyed it. But I always had to laugh at such a lily white Midwestern town congratulating itself for vibrant diversity.

But Madison does have a very small (5%) black population which I believe skews young. (I can't find that stat.) The arrest rate of young people in any ethnic group is significantly higher than that the rate for old people. So I question the relevance of the comparison in the article you linked.

This calls for a Holder intervention to exploit weak evidence established through statistical inference in order to label and disband the progressive community of Madison.

Will Eric Holder eliminate the Madison Police Dept based on racist policing statistics? Better yet, fire them all and replace them with unarmed Quaker psychologists.

Why is it that everybody expects black people to riot when one of them is shot?

Yet nobody expects Jews to riot when a Jew is killed, and nobody expects Chinese Americans to riot when one of them is killed?

We don't see all these frantic outreach efforts when a Jew or an Asian is killed, to try to head of imminent rioting. Because the rioting never happens.

Why is this always a black thing?

Laslo Spatula said...

"“One of the things I saw in Madison was older African American males sitting down with younger African American males..."

Sounds warm and fuzzy. Kind of what fathers and sons have been known to do on occasion.

I remember, while being on probation for armed home invasion, my Father telling me: "Laslo, you can't do that anymore." And he was right. It was a touching moment.

Then we talked about anal sex with women.

"Yet nobody expects Jews to riot when a Jew is killed, and nobody expects Chinese Americans to riot when one of them is killed?"

The only way to understand this is through oppression politics. For the Left, there are oppressed races and non-oppressed races, and Asians were only considered "oppressed" when it fit the Left narrative (which became inconvenient when Asians outperformed the average in schools, stable families, wealth creation and low crime).

The "oppressed", in the mind of the Left, include an entire race category--ALL blacks, including middle class blacks with solid incomes and stable families and no criminal history, while "non-oppressed" means ALL Asians, even those from broken homes, with little or no income, and criminal history. If you're of the "oppressed" class, you are to be treated as a special fetish for the Left, to be treated with kid gloves, treated as fragile victims with such little humanity that nothing good is expected of you. This attitude is in many ways far worse for the "oppressed" than overt race hatred, because it is widely accepted today and is disguised as a form of friendship.

sane_voter said...

Since blacks on average commit violent crimes at about 7x the rate of whites (per capita), the arrest rate should track similarly (normalizing for age).

AG Holder insisting that any arrest ratio greater than 1 is evidence of racism is laughable, except the result of enforcing such a policy would cause crime rates to necessarily skyrocket.

I see what you mean. The really interesting thing Sailer (or it was one of his commenters) shows about Ferguson is how average it is.

Racial lack of operational future-time orientation. Black people don't quite understand that if you "burn this bitch down", it's not gonna be there tomorrow when you wanna shop or get your hair did.

When they changed the amount of balls in a pinball game from five to three a group of my friends agitated for a riot at the Arcade.

My father said "Laslo, that is not the way to go about things."

I said "But Dad, how else will we produce change?"

"Go ahead, then, but don't come crying to me when your favorite pinball game gets destroyed and you can't play it anymore."

My Father was smart about these things.

My belief: the folks who got their jollies fomenting riots in Ferguson have been quietly informed by the DNC to cool it lest Scott Walker's handling of Madison riots make him the next president by acclamation.

One day I was talking with my Dad about my black friend Reginald, and how the cops always hassled him because he was black.

"Laslo, has your friend Reginald done anything to warrant this attention from the police?"

"Well, he has shoplifted a few times, just like beer and stuff..."

"Yes?"

"And he snatched a purse from an old lady, but there wasn't that much money in it, anyway."

"Is there more, Laslo?"

"Well, he did punch the old lady in the face to get her to let go of the purse."

"Laslo, do you not think these are things the police should be involved in?"

"But Reginald means well..."

"Laslo, from what you have said, your friend is at a crossroads in his life."

"Yeah?"

"Yes. He is either going to eventually get killed in an altercation with the Police..."

"Dad, that's horrible! What's the other path?"

"He will end up in Prison and most likely be repeatedly raped."

"That's not good, either, Dad."

"Laslo: choices decide your destination."

"Dad, do you really think Reginald would get raped in prison?"

"Laslo, I've seen Reginald: he is a small, pretty type. He will be raped. Repeatedly."

I hate to say this, but Dad was right: Reginald ended up serving time for armed home invasion and, while in prison, he was raped. Repeatedly.

My Dad was smart about a lot of things.

Then we talked about anal sex with women.

And the political angle: No matter how bad the Madison Police Dept. was, would Pres. Obama's Justice Dept. ever investigate it for civil rights violations? In a City and County as Democrat-friendly as Madison and Dane?

Gusty Winds said...

This is interesting because the only town in Wisconsin you can't hang around Walker's neck is Madison. They are their own island.

But this whole "we're not Ferguson" is laughable. Their small minority community lives in poverty just like everywhere else. I guess they get credit for caring.

As @Bob R said above, "I lived in Madison for four years. Really enjoyed it. But I always had to laugh at such a lily white Midwestern town congratulating itself for vibrant diversity."

That seems to sum it all up.

And by the way, I have to give some props for to @Laslo for consistent comic relief.

The thing about the Jewishness of Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman's breasts the other day was hilarious.

As to who is asking the High School students to leave class and protest (beyond the generic "Protesters in Madison" descriptor), I'd guess the Young Gifted and Black coalition? The TAA Union at the UW?

Would be interesting to learn who, exactly.

Mary, praying won't help anyone like Strangler Robinson. Sure, he was finna go to college, but Madison College, and he failed the "fog a mirror" test. He was a special ed. student in high school; he would have had to find a job involving simple manual labor, or use his large, well-muscled body in professional sports. Armed robbery was probably his best option.

For the same reason everybody expects white people to riot when their local sports team wins a championship.

Neither of those actually happens every time, nor even most of the time, but the media has painted a picture that forces people to believe things that aren't true.
