"Voter turnout is expected to be light" today in Wisconsin.

"Only two out of every 10 potential voters are expected to cast ballots."
Statewide, voters will decide whether to re-elect Justice Ann Walsh Bradley to a third 10-year term on the Supreme Court or to elect her challenger, Rock County Circuit Judge James Daley. They will also consider scrapping the 126-year-old practice of having the most senior member of the court serve as chief justice.
And in Madison, Mayor Soglin is up for reelection. His challenger is Scott Resnick, who is 28:
“I’m young, there’s no denying that,” Resnick said during an interview at his modest apartment he shares with his wife, Kelly, on the 14th floor of a student-oriented building with views of the Langdon Street neighborhood and Lake Mendota. “I do have a track record of some large accomplishments all under the age of 30.”...

He cites poverty, homelessness, housing, the achievement gap, employment, transportation and the digital divide — barriers to the Internet and technology for low-income residents and neighborhoods — as top issues.

“I am motivated by doing the big projects,” Resnick said. “I’m trying to help others by dreaming big."
I'm opposed to dreaming big, so I guess I've got to go for Soglin again. As for the judges, as I said yesterday, "I hate voting for judges and the whole charade of these campaigns."

So not voting for judges? How about the SC Amendment?

All of the old people are voting for Soglin. Baby Boomers like their own. Remember the old 60s counter culture saying? It's been updated to "Don't trust anyone under fifty."

Surprised at how many boomers who dislike Soglin are voting for him.

Unable to trust their kids generation. Sad.

Thought those were his achievements at first glance. Salt of the earth credentials.

28 seems young for a major city.

Soglin was first elected mayor at 27.

I'm voting for Resnick. Let someone else spend my money, Soglin has spent enough.

Is there a SC Amendment on the ballot today? I've seen a lot of chatter on how the CJ is selected -- is that it?

To what extent are Soglin's age cohort voting for him just because he's in their cohort?

His Wikipedia bio makes him seem like the tiny Joe Biden of Wisconsin. Who would vote for this guy? Just some leftist knee-jerker who had heard his name before?

"The vision, Resnick said, is the most open and transparent municipal government in the country that proactively responds to climate change..."

Proactive responses: sounds like Madison is ready for the Trash Police.

And by the way, doing anything at all at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard is a sign that you're a jerk-off. I took classes from there.

Dukakis went there after he flamed out. It's a bad sign.

"the achievement gap"

I'm sure government is the best solution to fix that particular problem ; )

Yep. Change from senior justice is Chief, to justices select their Chief.

I'd write in Frank Kaminsky.

I say split the baby.

Nobody compromises anymore.

So it's not best-of-3 falls on pay-per-view as a way to choose the CJ?

Well that's a disappointment.

Shirley would break her hip on the first fall...then what?

They're all in danger of bone fractures. (Except AZ and Gableman, who are both younger than I). AWB -- up for re-election today, is a relatively young 64. I can't think the other ones -- old geezers -- will run for re-election.

I thought they were his qualifications for Victimhood.

“I’m trying to help others by dreaming big."

"Dreaming" is a euphemism for "spending other people's money".

Can anybody provide any evidence that internet access helps foster achievement?

I'm not seeing it thus far.

Web-Cam girls.

Entrepreneurs, they are.

Based on some of the ads I thought Wisconsin was voting (democratically) to end the democratic election of judges.

I want a mayor who's going to solve the poverty problem. And if he can't do it in a term, then let's get another mayor who can.

lemondog said...

He cites poverty..

What is his specific stated economic solution?... other than big dreams...

I live in Philadelphia with similar problems of poverty, homelessness with a soon to be mayoral election and keep waiting to hear economic specifics.

Only two out of ten voters voting? Could be worse. Could be only one out of five.

Specifics? In the end they don't matter. It's tax the bejeezus out of those that ddo, and piss it away on dumb programs for those that won't.

That's nice, but one of the two is going to be elected, charade or not. With all the turmoil on the Wisc SCt over the last few years, participating in this election is the only way for the public to bring some adult supervision to a frequently dysfunctional court. From your prior posts on this subject (my only source of information on the topic), Justice Bradley seems to have been a large part of that problem.
