An artist is shot to death as he is painting a mural for the Oakland Super Heroes Mural Project, part of the Attitudinal Healing Connection.

Antonio Ramos was working on a picture — designed by school children — of "a row of homes surrounded by trees with several large peaceful figures standing over the bright cityscape" when a man walked up and shot him to death.
The mural was the third of six planned murals in the Oakland Super Heroes Mural Project organized by ArtEsteem, the art and literacy arm of Attitudinal Healing Connection, a West Oakland Group that seeks to stop violence by inspiring people with art and education.
"Antonio never raised his voice... There was no altercation, there was nothing like that. It was just a guy, crazy, walking through here. He probably stole something or did something to the mural and Antonio was asking why did you do that?"

UPDATE, November 25, 2015: Marquise Holloway, 20, of Oakland, arrested and charged:
Holloway is known to hang around the same neighborhood of West Oakland where Ramos was killed and had been associated with members of a street gang, Lt. Roland Holmgren said.... Holmgren said that on the day of his death, Ramos had taken a break from painting and was snapping pictures of the mural he was working on when Holloway allegedly walked by and began eyeing some of his camera equipment, which police believe led to the altercation and shooting.

It's Oakland. It's what all the caring white progressives of San Francisco and NoCal have made it.

"just a guy, crazy"

Then again, maybe not any old guy, maybe a particular kind of guy, and maybe just a tiny bit deliberate. Maybe.

There has been a massive increase in violent crime in the Bay Area, San Francisco, New York and other Democrat-run big cities in the last couple of years.

There has also been a massive influx of illegal immigrants and utter failure to enforce border controls on the part of the Obama Administration over the past couple of years.

Libtards, and their enablers in the media, are trying desperately to avoid mentioning the obvious connection.

Case in point:

Maybe the mural was in gang colors.

...and this time, Republicans shouldn't clean up the mess. Giuliani was raked over the coals for fixing NYC. Let the Prog shit wallow in its own filth.

I hate NYC anyway, so it returning to its toilet status would be perfect.

Well, the intentions were good though ... the artist probably wasn't depicting anyone shooting anyone else to death. So there's that.

I wonder if the artist was undocumented, and an illegal alien with no passport, and not paying taxes? I wonder if he had a fake social security card in order to fool the people in Washington DC?

Sure hope you're being ironic.

I won't condemn NYCers for this--Rudy was handily re-elected, and his chosen successor (who continued his crime policies) was elected three more times after that. NYers were idiots to vote for DeBlasio because they grew fat and happy after two decades of dropping crime. But who was the Rudy (or even Bloomberg) in the 2013 race?

An urban focused GOP could be competitive in Democratic-dominated cities--most of those cities are the way they are because the only choices they see are between machine Democrats and far left kooks, with an occasional DINO reformer thrown in.

Of all the ways I don't want to die, I don't want to die in a post modern irony kind of way the most. If only this young man had been shoot in an encounter with the police, his death would have meant something and his parents would be worth millions.

I wish that were true. Because the real reason there is no urban focused GOP is because no one would vote for them. In New York, it was Staten Island, Queens and Brooklyn who voted in Giuliani and Bloomberg. I don't think either guy ever carried Manhattan.

I live in the Detroit area, and if Vladimir Lenin were running against the GOP in the city itself, Lenin would be mayor by 99-1.

I'm sorry, but until African Americans can learn, the hard way, that Dems only want their vote, it ain't gonna change.

OK, maybe that was an overreaction, but it does sound like a project that needed to be stopped somehow.

A good rule of thumb is that the more murals a neighborhood has the more violent it is.

If they know who did it it wont show up in crime statistics or reports and the name will be left out and they don't keep track of the immigration status of criminals. There will be no mention of "sanctuary cities." Just move along.

The shooter was a law-abiding, responsible gun owner just prior to murdering the mural painter. Same rules apply though on the shooter: white guy = mentally ill. Black guy = thug.

It's Newspeak for "Happy Hour".

I've looked up four stories about this. Not one contains a description of the murderer. Aren't they trying to find that person?

Marvel at the literacy of the directory of the Oakland Board of Education: "There are people that want to take from other things in order to make themselves whole, and so Tony experienced that."

No one else here has mentioned race, but garage seems to know that it's a black guy. Maybe he has a link? Or maybe he's just projecting on the rest??

Reality is often easy to spot. For those who can think anyway. But it ain't fake.

Why are mentally ill and homicidal considered mutually exclusive? Sells fewer pills?

So, known right-wing safe havens CBS and ABC are totally racist, eh?

I'll note that I have no idea what race the shooter is (if he ends up dead, that'd be fitting), but garage knows stuff about the crime the police haven't released to the public.

He wasn't white because race is being omitted from every story.

Not just race. Young or old? Fat or thin? Tall or short? Anything special about his clothes? Any noticeable tattoos? Anything at all? Don't they want to find him?

Very sad, let's not lose sight of the young man who lost his life, Antonio Ramos.

I know the area well, San Pablo Ave in West Oakland, under the 580 Highway. Driven by it thousands of times.

First problem in Oakland:

Roughly 75 -80% of the kids are not raised by fathers. If you have no father, who's going to teach you right from wrong? Who's going to discipline you when you desperately need it? (crickets). Single mothers are lovely people, but it's too hard a task.

I ascribe this problem almost exclusivity to the Left -- who advocated the creation of the inner city welfare state and the destruction of the traditional 1 father, 1 mother families. Sex, birth and child-rearing without stable, devoted, committed fathers is probably the most catastrophic idea in this society.

Second problem in Oakland:

50% of public high school kids in don't graduate. Yes, a 50% drop-out rate. Now, add this to Problem 1 -- no father, likely poor, and no high school degree. How are you going to compete in the workforce? It's like a guaranteed life of poverty and/or crime, for 50% of the kids in Oakland.

I ascribe this problem, mostly to the left -- the teacher's unions are awful, the school bureaucracy is leftist too. Middle class whites, asians, blacks and hispanics, have simply opted out, and sent their kids to private schools, or move to neighboring cities, where they can get a better school, and safer neighborhood.

I do feel bad for the family and friends of Antonio Ramos. The policies implemented and values taught in Oakland though are abysmal and lead to this type of crime.

Well, be fair to the Democrats. They're just not the profit-line plus they were back in, say, 1860...

If Obama had a son, would he look like the guy that shot Ramos?

The shooter almost certainly had no father because democrats have destroyed low income families. The shooter almost certainly dropped out of a shitty public school run by progressives that didn't give a shit about his education. He almost certainly lived in a ghetto because all of the rich progressives live in gated communities with sky high property values and the regulations and minimum wage requirements they foist on everyone creates poverty zones with no economic development.

Bet he voted for the people that did all this too.

Many cynics here Ann - and frustrated folks who know how Lib Plantation Politics have ruined MANY cities in USA - but I just feel sad - very sad - that this vibrant young artist was randomly shot to death. To me he is an urban hero (from all I've read beyond this blog) and I am so sad he died this way. Prayers for him and those who loved him and enormous anger at the evil one that killed him.
